Vineyard and winery owner Gerald Hall walks through rows of trailing grape vines, pruned for the season's first harvest, carrying a bag of fresh-picked muscadine's at A Secret Garden near Pikeville. A Secret Garden winery is owned and operated by Gerald and wife, Linda Hall, who started the vineyards on Linda Hall’s family farm in the spring of 2002. Scuppernong and muscadine grapes, plants native to N.C., are grown organically using rich composted farm soil and deep well-water, without the use of harsh pesticides and herbicides. The Hall's hand-crafted wines are fermented on location, using only the natural yeast found on the fruit with no preservatives added. A Secret Garden produces several varieties of wines and offers vineyard tours, a tasting room and retail wine shop, located at 1018 Airport Road in Wayne County. |
