FRANCES H. ADAMS Frances Herndon Adams, 84, of Pikeville, died on Wednesday, August 15 at her home. Frances was born in Durham County on June 25, 1923 to the late Henry Clay Herndon and Martha Wilkins Herndon. She was married to the former Sheriff Will Ivey Adams. Frances volunteered with the Girl Scouts of America, where she served as a service unit manager, and was the recipient of the Silver Sea Gull Award. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Barry Stallings officiating. Frances is survived by her daughter, Melanie Adams, serving in the U.S. Air Force; her son, William Robert "Bobby" Adams and wife, Gina, of Goldsboro; and her grandchildren, Liam Gordan, Kieran Adams and Nicole Adams. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Tommy and Lynne Herndon, Henry Clay and Brenda Herndon, Martha Herndon, and Buddy and Helga Doame; and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lucille Williams and her brother, Henry Herndon Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society, 104 S. Center St., Goldsboro, N.C. 27534. The family will receive friends Saturday at the graveside following the service. Arrangements are with Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
EDROY JONES Edroy Jones, 81, of Fremont, died Friday, August 17 at the Brian Center in Goldsboro. Arrangements are incomplete at Hamilton Funeral Chapel of Goldsboro.
16 August 2007 ROBERT C. BASS SR. Robert Clifton Bass Sr., 95, died Wednesday, August 8 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bass was born in Wilson County on April 9, 1912 to the late Henry Bass and Lula Thomilson Bass. He was married to the late Gladys Lewis Bass. Mr. Bass was a retired parts clerk in Goldsboro. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. Funeral services were held Saturday morning, August 11 at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Whitfield officiating. Burial followed at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont. Mr. Bass is survived by his daughter, Connie Busdieker of LaGrange; his sons, Bobby Bass and wife, Mary Eve, of Goldsboro and Steve Bass of the home; his sisters, Margaret Warren of Goldsboro, Edith Carter of Wilson, Barbara Lamm of Wilson and Nancy Boykin and husband, James, of Wilson; his grandchildren, Chad Busdieker and Amy Hernandez; and his great-granddaughter, Emily Rose Hernandez.
DOROTHY E. BOWDEN Dorothy “Dot” Elizabeth Bowden, 60, of Goldsboro, died Saturday, August 11 at her residence. She was born in Goldsboro on December 5, 1946 to the late James and Hattie Bowden. She is survived by a sister, Geraldine Bowden-Pegram and three brothers, James, Bernard and Micheal Bowden. Homegoing services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 16 at True Vision Ministries, Inc. of Pikeville. JAMES E. PRICE James “Pinky” Edward Price, 84, of Goldsboro, died Friday, August 10 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Nathan and Carrie Howell Price and the widower of Thelma and Myrtle Price. Mr. Price was parts manager at C.L. Snipes Ford, a member of Westwood United Methodist Church and served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. Graveside services were held Sunday afternoon, August 12, at Wayne Memorial Park with the Rev. Rufus Butner officiating. Surviving are his foster sons, Joe Nassef of Pikeville and Robert Nassef of Goldsboro; brothers, Roland Price and Vernon Price, both of Pikeville, and a special friend, Jessie Sasser of Goldsboro. Mr. Price was also preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Price. BARRY H. SCOTT Barry Hal Scott, 48, of Goldsboro, died Wednesday, August 8 at his home. He was the son of the late Harold and Mable Tuck Scott of Goldsboro. The family received friends Saturday evening at the home of his brother, Randall Scott. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Summer Danielle Scott of Goldsboro; his brother, Randall Scott of Pikeville; and his sister, Vicki Morris of Pikeville. ALASKA R. STANLEY Alaska Ray Stanley, 58, of Pikeville, died Wednesday, August 8 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A memorial service was held on Sunday afternoon, August 12 from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro. Harvey Jacobs officiated. Mr. Stanley was born in Duplin County on Febuary 9, 1949, to Elnora Stanley of Pink Hill and the late Benjamin Stanley. He was employed with Seymour Johnson Air Force Base as a Civil Service housing inspector for more than 20 years and was a Vietnam veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his mother, Mr. Stanley is survived by his wife, Susie G. Stanley; three sons, Tremonteo Ray Stanley of Iraq, DeCarlos Orlando Stanley of Durham and Cedric Jules Stanley of Iraq; one daughter and son-in-law, Mirranda Stanley and Gary Jones of Wendell; and seven grandchildren. Condolences to the family may be posted at www.howellfuneral.com. PATRICIA B. WALL Mrs. Patricia B. Wall, 59, of Kenly, died Saturday evening, August 11. She was born in Wilson County on October 30, 1947 to the late William Ollie Boykin and surviving mother, Mary Minshew. Mrs. Wall was a member of Holly Springs F.W.B. Church and held office in the ladies auxiliary. Her funeral was held Tuesday, August 14 at 11 a.m. at Holly Springs F.W.B. Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Revs. Curtis Jones and Lynn Renfrow officiated. Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Bobby Wall; sons, Joey Wall and wife, Becky, of Kenly and Jeremy Wall and wife, Bettie, of Fayetteville; sister, Lou Carroll of Kenly; brothers, Billy Boykin of Kenly and Bobby Boykin of Kinston; grandchildren, Britt Wall of Fremont, Jacob Wall of Kenly, Brooke Wall of Fremont and Jessica Wall of Kenly.
KENNETH L. KINLAW Kenneth Lamont Kinlaw, 58, of Goldsboro, died Sunday evening, August 11, at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was born in Wayne County on July 21, 1949, the son of the late Joe Kinlaw and Annie Pearl Kinlaw. He graduated from Dillard High School in 1967. He entered in the U.S. Air Force soon after graduation. Ken was a member of Saint James Church of Christ. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 17 at Goldsboro Raleigh Disciples Institute, 211 W. Hooks River Road, with the Rev. Vennie J. Hairston officiating, before burial in Wayne Memorial Park. Mr. Kinlaw will be coached to his final resting place in Wayne Memorial Park in the same 1800’s period horse drawn hearse that bore the remains of Corretta Scott King, the widow of the slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The funeral cortege will travel pass his place of business, 417 Walnut St., and through the Little Washington community where he was reared before going to the cemetery. Viewing for the public will be Thursday, August 16 from 2 to 7 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. He is survived by two daughters, Margo Little and husband, Fred, of Washington, D.C., and Brandy Kinlaw of Maryland; one son, Zachary Kinlaw of Pikeville; one granddaughter, Zariah Kinlaw; lifetime partner, Hope Oliver of the home; two sisters, Betty Borden of Durham and Margaret Kinlaw of Dudley; one niece, Erica Borden of Durham; one nephew, Joey L. Kinlaw of Durham; two great-nephews and one great-niece; a special and loving extended family, the Olivers, of Goldsboro; former wife, Belinda Spencer; and a host of other relatives and friends. Arrangements are being handled by McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries of Goldsboro. ZAY D. SMITH Zay Dock Smith, 85, of Princeton died Wednesday morning, August 15. He was born July 25, 1922 and was the son of the late Charlie Nixon Smith and Virginia Smith Wall. He was the widower of Ethel Mae Mozingo Smith and is also preceded in death by three daughters, Kathy Fields, Carol Moore and Rose Smith; two brothers, Charlie Smith, Jr. and Willie Smith, and one sister, Lillie Mae Edwards. The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday evening, August 16, at Casey Funeral Home with the Reverend Dennis Pollock officiating. Burial will follow in Princeton Cemetery on Friday, August 17 at 9 a.m. He is survived by a son, Robin Smith of Goldsboro; two brothers, Ray Smith of Princeton and Buck Smith of Princeton; a sister, Minnie Hill of Stantonsburg; and two grandchildren, Caitlin Smith and Camron Smith. A graveside service will be held Friday, August 17 at 11 a.m. at Gurley Family Cemetery in Pikeville. The Rev. Bill Cotton will officiate. Mr. Hinson was born in Wayne County to the late Berry Hinson and Lura Caldwell Hinson. He was self-employed as a painter. He is survived by a son, Eddie Hinson, and his wife, Amy, of Goldsboro; a sister, Margaret Head of Pikeville; and four grandchildren; Alex, Joshua, Allison, and William Hinson Jr., all of Goldsboro.
CHRISTINE ‘TINY’ LANE Christine “Tiny” T. Lane of Rosewood died Tuesday night, August 14, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Tiny was a member of Rosewood Baptist Church. She was retired from O’Berry Center but continued to work at Woodard’s Retirement until her health started to decline. Tiny was the widow of the late James “Jim” Lane and the daughter of the late Walter Scott Turnage and Lily Mae Turnage. Tiny is survived by daughters, Bonnie Moody and husband, Ted, of Dudley, Judy Tillman of Rosewood and special friend, David Hayes, of Clayton; her sons, Logan Lane and special friend, Lisa Darden, of Rosewood and Jeffrey Lane and wife, Sam, of Rosewood; her brother, Carl Turnage of New Albany, Ind.; her sisters, Martha Harrison of Goldsboro, Helen Lane of Benbrook, Texas, Bonnie Shook and Yvonne Craven of McClenney, Fla.; special family friends, Diane Coker of Rosewood and JoAnn Williams of Kinston; her grandchildren, Alan Moody of Mount Olive, Jessica Hood and husband, Brandon, of Goldsboro, Lloyd and Jesse Tillman of Nahunta, Cody Tillman of Rosewood, Tina Hopper and husband, Jeff, of Goldsboro, Dale Best Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Kinston, Brandy Reardon and friend, Jesse Moore, of Goldsboro and Will Lane of Rosewood; and her great-grandchildren, Dwayne Strickland of Mount Olive, Dustin, Caitlin and Jadin Best of Kinston, Carlie Hopper of Goldsboro, Alex Johnson of Grantham, Christy Pierce of Kinston, Rusty Flowers of LaGrange and Jesse “Lil Buddy” Moore Jr. of Goldsboro. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tammy Best Flowers, seven brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Larry Bostian and the Rev. Vernon Braswell officiating. Visitation will follow the service. Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at other times at 116 Neal Drive in Rosewood.
