As a community newspaper, we cover those matters of most concern to our readers - the people of Fremont, Pikeville, Belfast, Eureka, Northern Wayne County and Southern Wilson.
As a community newspaper; we have a commitment to our communities that goes beyond-just publishing the news. We have a responsibility to be a positive part of the community. We have a corporate responsibility to support those activities that make our communities better places to live. We encourage our employees to be good citizens and contribute their time and money.
As a newspaper we have a responsibility to discuss problems before our communities, with a goal of finding solutions. We also have a responsibility to lift up those who work to make our communities better, to offer a measure of community thanks and hopefully inspire others to get involved.
We believe in expressing our own opinions as persuasively and forcefully as possible, but only on the editorial pages. We believe in giving our readers the opinions of others and encourage letters to the editor and guest editorials. The editorial pages should be a forum for ideas...ours and yours. They belong to you, the reader. That’s why you can always get the last word with a letter to the editor.
We are a business and sell newspapers. But that is only part of what we sell. We sell advertising so other businesses can tell their stories to their market. We are a vehicle. But we sell more than space in our newspaper. We sell our knowledge, our expertise, and our service.
As a business, we know that we must produce a profit. The best way to assure a fair and reasonable profit is to produce a quality newspaper for our readers and our advertisers.
