Boys finish regular season in second place1 May 2008 — The Aycock baseball team rounded out their regular season in second place after facing a loss at Eastern Wayne last week, but posting a shutout over Southern Wayne on Friday. The Falcons lost a battle for the first place position in the conference when they faced Eastern Wayne on Wednesday. Aycock lost 7-4. The Warriors staged an early lead, earning six points by the end of the second while holding the Falcons scoreless. Aycock burst forth in the fourth, earning four runs to close the scoring gap. But the Warriors maintained a lead, finishing three runs ahead for the top spot in the Eastern Carolina Conference. Jesse Randolph pitched the entire game, with 11 hits that translated into seven earned runs. Randolph walked one and struck out one. The Falcons had five hits for the game, with hits from Bryant Hill, Will Edgerton, Jordan Carr, Zach Wright, and Tyler Ruffin. But the Aycock boys bounced back on Friday night with an 11-0 victory over Southern Wayne. After scoring two runs at the top of the first, the Falcons had established a seven point lead by the end of the fifth inning. They scored two runs in each of the final two innings for an 11-0 margin and the win. Connor Narron had a two-run homer, and Steven Strouse also had a homerun for the game. Wright had three hits for the Falcons, and Carr had two hits and two RBI. Ruffin and Jonathan Taylor each had a hit for Aycock as well. Eric Dubose was the winning pitcher, with five hits, one walk, and one strikeout in six innings. Jimmy Kearney pitched the final inning with one hit and two strikeouts.
