stantonsburg police report17 April 2008 — The Stantonsburg police made a drug-related arrest in town on Monday. Chief John Hunt said the department had received multiple reports that drugs were being sold out of a home on Academy Street. On Monday, officers arrived at the home to pick up one of its occupants on orders for arrest for worthless checks. When they entered the home, they found marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The suspect, Richard Benton, was arrested and turned over to the Wilson Police Department. The department also closed out a case of forgery this month, which they have been investigating since November. The Stantonsburg Medical Clinic had reported that Ruth Ann Garner had been stealing blank prescription forms from the clinic during visits and filling them out to obtain prescription drugs. The department set up a trap to pull Ms. Garner over as she was leaving the clinic last week, and discovered two blank forms on her person. Ms. Garner was taken to the department, where she made a full confession. She was charged with three counts of forgery and uttering and three counts of obtaining controlled substances by fraud. Chief Hunt also addressed reports of an accident that the department didn’t respond to last weekend. He explained that the department received word of an accident that was in the area across the Wayne County line. The officer on duty responded to the call, which was out of the town’s jurisdiction, because officials in the Eureka area said there wasn’t anyone available. However, the department was told the accident was on Highway 222, when it was actually off of Red Hill Road. After the officer didn’t see an accident, he referred it over to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department. The department also reported the following citations: Elisabeth Tomlinson Tracey of Cary was charged with speeding, going 65 mph in a 45 mph zone. Gary Wayne Whitley of Stantonsburg was cited for driving 46 mph in a 35 mph zone. Anthony Linwood Harrell of Kernerville was cited for speeding at 62 mph in a 45 mph zone. Scott William Oliveras of Philadelphia was charged with speeding, going 65 mph in a 55 mph zone. Lisa Maple Parker of Selma was charged with failing to carry the registration card for her vehicle. Magdalene Fiona Greaney of Jacksonville was cited for failure to stop at a red light.
