Aycock shuts out Greene Central17 April 2008 — Aycock's boys baseball team finished out the week with three wins and one loss. The Aycock boys shut out Greene Central Wednesday, finishing with an 8-0 victory over the Rams. Aycock started off with strong offense, earning four runs in the first inning and increasing their lead to five runs in the second. After two scoreless innings, the Falcons had a sixth run in the fifth inning, and added two more in the final. Will Edgerton had a homerun that sent two teammates in as well early in the game. Jordan Carr was 3-for-4 at bat, and Josh Martin, Connor Narron, and Zach Wright each had a hit and an RBI. Jesse Randolph held Greene Central to just three hits for the game, and had seven strikeouts in his seven innings at the mound. The Falcons followed Wednesday's performance with a 3-2 win over Fike on Thursday. Aycock started again with strong offense, garnering a three-run lead at the end of the fourth inning. While the Golden Demons broke through in the next inning, earning two runs in the final two, Aycock held them off for the win. Eric Dubose pitched all seven innings on Thursday, with five strikeouts and five hits for the night. He walked one and had two earned runs. At the plate, Bryant Hill, Narron, Wright, and Martin each had hits for the Falcons. Hill, Wright, and Martin each had an RBI. Aycock faced last year’s 1A state champions in Princeton for the second time this season on Monday night, and saw a team that had improved substantially since the start of the season. When the two championship teams faced off earlier this season, the Falcons dealt Princeton a 12-0 loss. But Monday, it was a whole new ball game. Aycock scored the first run at the top of the second inning, and improved to a total of three runs by the end of their time at bat for the third. But Princeton tied the score in that inning, earning three runs of their own. The Bulldogs struck again to break the tie at the bottom of the sixth. Aycock narrowed the gap in their final at-bat, but Princeton kept hold of their lead for the win 5-4. Bryant Hill pitched for six innings, with six hits, five strikeouts, and walking two. Carr was 3-for-4 at bat with a double and two RBI. Jonathan Taylor had two hits and an RBI as well. The boys bounced back at Kinston on Tuesday night with a big offensive strike, defeating the Vikings 12-2. Aycock started off strong, earning three runs in the first inning and posting an 8-2 lead at the end of the third. After earning four more in the fourth inning and holding Kinston at two for the next two innings, the game was called on the ten run rule. Three Falcon batters were perfect at the plate on Tuesday. Carr was 3-for-3 with two doubles and sending three other runners across the plate. Wright was also 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Taylor was 2-for-2 with three RBI and a double. Steven Strouse had two hits and an RBI, and Edgerton had a double and a triple for the Falcons. Randolph was the winning pitcher, throwing for four innings. He had three strikeouts, five hits, and allowed two earned runs. Jimmy Kearney pitched the final inning. The Aycock boys host Hunt on Friday night, and travel to Eastern Wayne on Tuesday.
