Boys take Saints down

10 April 2008 — The Charles B. Aycock baseball team held on to their position at the top of the conference this week, bumping their record to 5-1 for the Eastern Carolina Conference and 11-4 overall.

Wednesday night the Falcons had their closest game of the week, pulling out a win in the seventh for a 4-3 victory over Southern Wayne.

The Saints took an early lead with three runs in the third, and the Falcons replied with one at the bottom of the inning. After keeping the score at 3-1 through the sixth inning, the Falcons pulled out a save, earning three runs at the bottom of the seventh.

Jesse Randolph was the winning pitcher, throwing for all seven innings. He had five strikeouts, eight hits, and allowed three runs.

Tyler Ruffin led in hits for the Falcons, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Connor Narron and Jordan Carr were each 2-for-4, and Carr swung out a double.

The Falcons made up an earlier rain-out at Clayton on Thursday, returning home with a 5-1 victory.

The Aycock boys earned the win again with a seventh-inning rally, breaking a 1-1 tie that held through four innings with four runs at the bottom of the game.

Will Edgerton led the Falcon batters on Thursday, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Ruffin was 1-for-3 with a double for his solo hit, and Jackson Wooten contributed two hits.

The Falcons ended their week with a big 10-1 victory against Beddingfield on Friday.

The boys scored in all six innings at bat, and started things off with four runs in the first inning. Meanwhile, the Falcon defense limited the Bruins to four hits for the game and only allowed one run in the sixth inning.
