Northern Lights ECA March meeting

3 April 2008 — Dr. Jack Sauls, pastor of Mount Nelson Baptist Church, presented the program "Identity Theft" to Northern Lights' ECA members at their March meeting. In presenting the program, he stressed caution in our dealings with the public. The bad guys pick up bits of information, put the info together, and in no time your accounts will be depleted. Once this happens, it may take years to correct. Ways to protect yourself are shredding names, addresses, and other private information found on envelopes and lettersheads; change your checking account by using only your initial and last name, remove your phone number and if possible give a post office box number for your address; keep a close watch on all your accounts; close all accounts you don't actually need; report a theft online at ftc.gov/idtheft or by phone at 1-877-438-4338.

Plans for participation at the Fremont Daffodil Festival were finalized. Our Daffodil Quilt was raffled at one dollar a ticket. Cakes, pies, apple jacks, cupcakes, candy, and nuts were sold.

With only three months into the year, members have turned in a total of 28 pounds of drink tabs. The money from the sale of the tabs goes to dialysis patients.

Eight tote bags have been turned in by our sewing members. These bags will be filled with hygiene supplies for battered women.

Canned mixed vegetables were collected and will be carried to the House of Fordham.
Members cut 225 eye screeners for the county schools. Students' eyes are checked by covering one eye at a time with the screener. The result of the screening is written on the back of the screener for parents to see.

The topic of our Area Meeting on March 27 is "Understanding our New North Carolinian."

Seven members will attend District Day April 3. The district is made up of thirteen counties and covers the southeastern section of NC.

Several of our members will begin quilting on the County Quilt April 1.

Doris Davis gave our devotional and also served as hostess.
