Lady Falcons lock horns with Triton3 April 2008 — The Aycock softball team experienced their first losses of the season this weekend at the Harnett Central Easter Tournament. The ladies went 1-2 in three games to move their overall record to 8-2. The day started with an intense battle of wills against Triton. The ladies were locked in a dead heat for seven innings with both teams hitting, but neither team scoring. The Lady Falcons kept six Triton runners from making it home, but one hitter finally crossed the plate in the eighth inning. Trition posted a 1-0 win. Leigh Smith and Torie Benton were the lead hitters for Aycock. Smith went 2-for-3, and Benton had a third hit for the Falcons. The ladies faced hosts Harnett Central next, and fell 10-0 for their second loss. Harnett posted an early lead, with seven runs in the first inning. They held the Falcons at zero and allowed only three hits for the game. Harnett then added three more runs of their own in the fifth to end the game and secure the win. Smith, Autumn Pittman, and Shamika Polite each had a hit for Aycock. The ladies finished the day with a win, however, with a 9-6 defeat of Midway. Aycock earned the first run, and had a 3-1 lead at the end of the third inning. Each team battled hard in the fourth, with Aycock and Midway scoring four runs apiece. However, the Falcons edged out a three-point lead to earn the win. The ladies had a total of 14 hits in this final game. Brittany Ford, Cara Frederick, and Benton were each 3-for-5. Frederick had one RBI, and Benton sent in four. Smith was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Brittany Edgerton, Jessica Hare, and Randi Tucker also had a hit each, and Tucker had an RBI. Pittman pitched all three games on Saturday for a total of 19 and two-thirds innings. She totaled 12 strikeouts, and allowed 27 hits and seven earned runs. Pittman also walked a total of five batters between the three games. The ladies travel to North Johnston on Wednesday. They host Beddingfield on Friday at 7:00, and travel to Fike Tuesday afternoon.
