$6,000 reward for information
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance from the public in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on March 3, 2008 at 1273 Black Creek Road, Fremont, North Carolina. Silvia Benitez Morales, a 28 year old Hispanic female, was found dead in her home at approximately 3:45p.m by family members. Her 3 year old son is believed to have been in the house when the murder occurred.
The Sheriff’s Office believes the crime occurred between 1:15p.m. and 3:30p.m. on this same date. Anyone that might have been in this area and seen anything that they believe might be pertinent to this case are requested to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 919-731-1481 or Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255.
Detectives are actively pursuing any and all leads in the case, and the Sheriff’s Office has requested that the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation assist in the Investigation.
Wayne County Crime Stoppers will pay cash rewards for information that leads to the arrest of persons responsible for this crime. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is offering an additional $6,000.00 reward, above what Crimestoppers pays, for information leading to the arrest of responsible parties.

Curves of Fremont will participate in an annual food drive donating all contributions to our local food banks. For the entire month of March anyone wishing to join Curves can bring in a bag of non-perishable food items and Curves will waive the service sign up fee.
Statewide burning ban
Due to hazardous forest fire conditions and the continuing drought, the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources have enacted a statewide burning ban.

The Fremont Daffodil Festival Foundation is now accepting names to be added to the memorial monument in the Fremont Daffodil Memorial Park. The stone monument is 2 ft. 8 in. wide, 10 in. thick and 3 ft. 6 inches tall and lettered on both sides. Names can be placed on this monument in honor or in memory of a Fremont resident. A minimum donation of $350.00 is requested to cover the fees for the engraving and to help maintain the memorial park.
A special ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 29th after the opening ceremonies of the 22nd Annual Fremont Daffodil Festival recognizing new names honored on the monument.
Storytime for preschoolers
Preschool story time for children ages 2-5 is held at the Fremont Library on Monday mornings at 10 a.m. Children are invited to come and participate in songs, craft projects, and the reading of fun books.
Fremont Free Clinic
The Fremont People's Free Clinic is held every third Saturday of the month, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at 107 Ward Street. Please come fasting if you would like your labs checked.
