Lady Falcons take down North Lenoir, Kinston20 March 2008 — Aycock’s softball program is still going strong at a month into the season, as the girls claimed three wins this week. The Aycock girls landed a narrow lead over North Lenior on Friday with a 3-2 victory at home. Aycock held a tight grip on the game, mounting a two-run lead in the first inning. Neither team scored another run until the Lady Falcons increased their lead to 3-0 in the sixth. North Lenior broke through at the top of the seventh, earning two runs, but couldn’t quite catch Aycock. Emily Jordan was the starting pitcher for Aycock, throwing for the first three innings. She had two strikeouts, two hits, and one walk. Autumn Pittman relieved Jordan in the fourth and finished out the game with four strikeouts, five hits, and two earned runs. On the other side of the ball, Aycock had seven hits against North Lenior’s pitcher. Tori Benton had a double, and was 2-for-4 at bat. Stevie Savage was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Leigh Smith also batted in a run on her solo hit. Anna Sullivan, Brooke Edgerton, and Cara Frederick had hits for the Lady Falcons as well. Friday night, the ladies traveled to Kinston and dealt out a 12-1 victory in six innings. After a scoreless first inning, Aycock earned the first runs at the top of the second, sending three runners across the plate before taking the field. Kinston replied with a single run in the third. But it was the fifth inning that sealed the Falcons’ dominance, as the ladies earned six runs to establish a 9-1 lead. After three more runs in the sixth, the game was called, and Aycock left the victors. Savage and Smith both had doubles for the ladies. Frederick made contact on three of her four at-bats, and had three RBI. Benton, Sullivan, Jordan, and Amber Baker also had an RBI each. She had six strikeouts, three hits, two walks, and hit one batter. Pittman pitched the final two, with two strikeouts and one hit. The Lady Falcons were locked in a tight battle with Hunt on Tuesday night, but after a sixth-inning spurt the girls claimed the win. Both teams stayed locked in to a tie at zero for much of the game. Aycock had seven hits overall, but didn’t get a runner safely home until the sixth inning. The girls tallied all three runs for the game during the sixth, and Jordan’s pitching held the Warriors at zero. Jordan pitched all seven innings on Tuesday, with six strikeouts, five hits, an done walk. Ford was the leading batter with two hits on her four trips to the plate. Torie Benton had a double for her solo hit. Smith, Frederick, Edgerton, and Pittman all had hits for the Falcons, and Frederick had an RBI. The ladies maintain a perfect record, with a 7-0 tally overall and a 2-0 conference record. They host Eastern Wayne on Thursday, and travel to Harnett Central for an Easter tournament next Friday. The girls resume regular play on April 2, traveling to North Johnston.
