Aycock bombs Beddingfield, 12-2By Barry Merrill 13 March 2008 — Jesse Randolph gave up a couple of runs in the first, but shut out Beddingfield the rest of the way in a 12-2 Aycock win Tuesday afternoon. Last Wednesday the Falcons suffered their first loss, a 7-3 decision at North Lenoir. Randolph gave up a lead-off double in the first and a homer to sacrifice the early lead. Jordan Carr answered in the top of the second with a triple, and trotted home on John Taylor’s double to get one run back. In the bottom of the second the first two Bruins singled, and a sacrifice moved both to scoring position. A walk filled the bases, but Randolph then got the final out of the inning with a strikeout on three pitches. The Aycock offense got cranking in the top of the third. Tyler Ruffin and Will Edgerton opened the inning with singles, and the Bruin pitcher hit the next two batters. Zack Wright reached on an error, and CBA had a 4-1 lead. Then Carr stroked a three run homer. The Bruins changed pitchers, but CBA got three more home in the inning. In the fourth, a walk and two singles helped bring home two more Falcon runs. Randolph hit his groove in the third, striking out the side. He limited Beddingfield to two hits in the final two innings. The game was called on the ten run rule after the bottom of the fifth. Randolph’s slate shows he gave up six hits, struck out five, and walked just one over the five innings. His defense only had one error on the day. Carr had three hits, three rbi, and three runs to lead the offense. Bryant Hill had a hustling double in the fifth. CBA had nine hits on the day. Zack Wright took a foul tip off the hand, but the coaching staff was hopeful the hand would respond to ice packs. Last Wednesday Eric DuBose pitched well through the first three innings at North Lenoir, and the Falcon offense gave him an early lead, but the Hawks started connecting in the fourth and fifth. DuBose retired the first nine Hawk batters in order, but gave up a lead-off single in the fourth, and a two run homer to tie the score at 2-2. In the bottom of the fifth after giving up a lead-off walk, Coach Charles Davis summoned Derek Limbaugh to the mound. He gave up a two run double and a two run homer as North Lenoir took command. Zack Wright pitched the sixth in relief. He gave up a walk to lead off the inning, but his replacement behind the plate, John Taylor, cut down the Hawk runner trying to steal. Wright struck out the final two Hawk batters. In the second CBA scored their first run after Wright was hit by a pitch, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on John Taylor’s ground out to second. In the fourth, Connor Narron scored after a lead-off single, moving up on another wild pitch, and then scoring on Wright’s single. Wright homered in the sixth for the Falcons’ final run. His two hits lead the four hit attack in the losing effort. Dubose was tagged with the loss. CBA (4-1) was scheduled to host North Lenoir Wednesday. Kinston comes calling Friday. They travel to Hunt Tuesday.
