Local election candidates

13 March 2008 — Registration to be on the ballot for county offices this year closed last Friday, and two offices will have candidates on the ballot in May’s primary.

In District 1, which covers the northern portion of Wayne County, Republican James Beckwith of Pikeville challenges incumbent Andy Anderson, also of Pikeville, for the seat. Democrat Charles Bruton of Fremont has also filed to run for District 1 in November.

Five names have been put into the ring for the Commissioner at Large spot. Hal Keck and Jeff Jennings, both of Goldsboro,  have filed as Republicans. Democrats Chris Gurley and Darrell Horne, both of Goldsboro, and Sandra R. McCullen of Dudley have also filed for the seat.

Two newcomers vie for the District 4 seat left vacant by Efton Sager, who is running for the District 11 NC House seat. Republican Steve Keen and Democrat Denny Tart have filed for District 4.

Incumbent JD Evans is unchallenged in the District 2 race. In District 3, Frank Pearsall III challenges incumbent John Bell.

In District 5, Willie Ray Starling challenges incumbent Bud Gray, and Joe Daughtery challenges District 6 incumbent Jack Best.

Three seats on the Board of Education are up for election this year. Incumbent Shirley Sims is unchallenged for the District 2 seat, while District 3 incumbent Thelma Smith is challenged by Charles Wright.

Eddie Radford and Ven Faluk have filed for the Member at Large position.
