STEPHEN E. CONERLY

Stephen Earl Conerly, 50, of Raeford, formerly of Pikeville, died Sunday, March 2 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

He was born in Cumberland County on October 12, 1957 to the late Bobby Conerly Sr. and Mattie Conerly.

One child survives.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Newton Grove with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment followed at the church cemetery. The Rev. Jim Bailey officiated.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C. 27834.

The family is being served by Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.

 

SALLIE MOORE DAVIS

Sallie Moore Davis, 97, of Eureka, died Thursday, March 6.

Mrs. Davis was the widow of Charles Thomas Davis, who died in 1955. She was born in Ayden on July 23, 1910 to the late Churchwell and Venetia Baker Moore. She was a member of Eureka United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 8 at 11 a.m. at Eureka United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Eureka Cemetery.

Surviving is her daughter, Nora D. White of Greenville, S.C.; son, Charles T. Davis Jr. and wife, Joyce, of Eureka; granddaughters, Laura W. Herd and husband, James, Dolores W. Rabey and husband, Roger, Jewell W. Tonkel and husband, Jeff, Lisa D. Frieson and husband, Kevin, Nora D. Aycock and husband, Gary; and nine great-grandchildren. A granddaughter, Jennifer Davis, predeceased her grandmother.

The family will be at the church Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Eureka United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 3240, Eureka, N.C. 27830.

GENE GARRIS

Raymond Eugene "Gene" Garris, 52, of Goldsboro, died at his home on Monday, March 3.

Gene was born in Wayne County on October 7, 1955 to Winston Durham Garris of Goldsboro and the late Pege Smith Davis. He owned and operated Gene Garris Homes of Goldsboro.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 6 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. The Rev. Dann Patrick will officiate.

In addition to his father, Gene is survived by his wife, Louise Santana Garris; his son, Winston Garris of Durham; his daughter, T.K. Garris of Charleston, S.C.; his sister, Debe Garris Carrere of Pikeville; and his brother, Robert Garris of Goldsboro.

The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon following the service at Seymour Funeral Home.

BOBBY MCGEE HONEYCUTT

Bobby McGee Honeycutt, 68, died on Saturday evening, March 1, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Bobby was born in Johnston County on November 6, 1939 to the late John Daniel Edwards and Theola Honeycutt. He was the owner and operator of Bobby's Upholstery in Goldsboro. He was a member of the Goldsboro Moose Lodge 661.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 3 at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Bailey officiating.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Jessie Ellen Turner Honeycutt; his children, Doug Honeycutt and wife, Kim, of Pikeville, Frankie Honeycutt of Dudley, Joyce McCrimmon and husband, Scott, of Clayton, Kim Reeves and husband, David, of Mount Airy, Paulette Jackson and husband, Sam, of Rosewood; his brothers and sisters, Rease Honeycutt, Donnie King, Lib Lassiter, Teresa Young, Sharon Pate, Harold Edwards; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Honeycutt.

Donations may be made to the Goldsboro Moose Lodge or the charity of one's choice.

 

KAREN MURPHREY HUFF

Karen Murphrey Huff, 55, of Wilson, died Thursday, February 28.

She was born January 24, 1953.

A memorial service was held 7 p.m. Monday, March 3 at Joyner's Funeral Home, Wilson.

Mrs. Murphrey is survived by a son, Jamie C. Huff and wife, Sherry; two granddaughters, Kaitlyn Huff and Hailey Joe-Ann Huff all of Stantonsburg; a niece, Kathy Phillips and husband, Kirk, of Willow Spring; two aunts, Mig Sullivan and husband, Clyde, of Goldsboro and Faye Coley of Snow Hill; an uncle, Eddie Coley of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; close friend, Sherby White of Lucama and companion, Jeff Deans, of Black Creek.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis Edgar and Carrie Coley Murphrey.

Memorials in her memory may be directed to the family.

DAN JOYNER

Dan Joyner of Richmond, Va., formerly of Wayne County, died Monday, March 3 in Richmond. He is the brother of Wilson Joyner of Fremont.

Arrangements are pending.

 

GEORGE C. LANE

George Carver Lane, 73, of Goldsboro, died Monday, March 3 at his residence.

Born in Duplin County on September 7, 1934, he was the son of the late John S. and Mary Carter Lane. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 5 at 7 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. Pastor Willard Hardison officiated. A graveside service will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Lane is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Lib" Lane; five daughters, Carolyn Ann Edwards of Dudley, Mary Ann Passmore of Mooresville, N.C., Georgia Faye Davis of Dudley, Cathy Jane Lane of Dudley, Gracie Marie Edwards of Pikeville; two brothers, Bill Lane of Goldsboro, Marvin Lane of Garner; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Family members received friends Wednesday evening immediately following the service.

ELIZABETH L. MOBLEY

Elizabeth Gardner Lancaster Mobley, 93, formerly of Patetown, died Monday afternoon, March 3, at Britthaven Nursing Home.

Mrs. Mobley was born in Wayne County on August 6, 1914, to the late Albert H. Gardner and Sarah Eliza Vinson Gardner. She was married to the late Dewey O. Lancaster, the late John C. Brown and the late Cleveland A. Mobley. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 6 at 11 a.m. at Freedom Baptist Church with the Rev. David Jackson and Bill Garner officiating. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Family Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn L. Pate of Goldsboro, Mary Sasser and husband, Joe, of Pikeville, Patsy L. Bass and husband, Hugh, of Goldsboro, Rose L. Webber and husband, Sidney, of Goldsboro, Linda Hinkson and husband, James, of Goldsboro; her sons, Oliver Lancaster and wife, Bonnie, of Greenville, Donnie H. Lancaster of Goldsboro; 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her grandsons, John Alan Evans and Michael Mar Lancaster; her son-in-law, John T. Evans; six brothers; and one sister.

Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to Freedom Baptist Church, 300 Country Day Road, Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.

DOROTHY ELLIS PERKINS

Dorothy Ellis "Dot" Perkins, 87, of Pikeville, died Wednesday morning, March 5, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Dot was born in Wayne County on May 15, 1920 to the late Herman Weil Ellis and Ruby Rose Ellis. She had worked in the Rosewood cafeteria and also in the dietary department of O'Berry Center.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 6 at 7 p.m. at Pine Forest United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Olsen officiating. The family will greet friends Thursday following the service and other times at the home of her daughter, Karen Collins, Pikeville. A private interment will be held Friday in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Oscar Stanton Perkins; her daughters, Betsy Hill and husband, John, of Mount Olive, Karen Collins and husband, Lionel, of Pikeville; and her son, Steve Perkins of Rosewood; seven grandchildren, Johnny Hill of Havelock, Tommy Hill of Morehead City, Wendy and Tom Crane of Phoenix, Ariz., Christy and Danny Duval of Gulfport, Miss., Danny and Melissa Edgerton of Pikeville, Carl and Kim Perkins of Eureka, Kevin Perkins of Fremont; and her step-granddaughter and husband, Miranda and Scott Beasley of Princeton; 12 great-grandchildren, Chris Hill, Amanda Hill, Cameron Hill, Joey Crane, Carson Crane, Courtney Duval, Hunter Duval, Justin Edgerton, Tyson Edgerton, Emily Perkins, Carlie Perkins, Cody Perkins, Collin Beasley; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah and Al Avery of Goldsboro, Carolyn and Jimmy Thompson of Goldsboro, Cleon Ellis of Apex; and her brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Martha Ann Ellis of Rosewood.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas Stanton Perkins and James Herman Perkins; two brothers, Herman Ellis and George Ellis; and two sisters, Ruby Rose Kornegay and Ruth Ellis Best.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dot's honor to Pine Forest United Methodist Church, 867 South N.C. 581 Highway, Goldsboro, N.C. 27530 or to the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 258.

GEORGE 'BUZZ' THORNTON JR.

George "Buzz" Thornton Jr., 54, of Goldsboro, died Wednesday, February 27 at his residence.

He was born May 16, 1953.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, March 4 at 11a.m. at the Jones-Elks Family Cemetery in Pikeville.

He is survived by his wife, Shelby Thornton of Goldsboro; daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Richard Eason of Goldsboro; son, Joshua Thornton of Goldsboro; three grandchildren, Lindsay Thornton, Brittany Thornton, Bradley Eason, all of Goldsboro; mother and stepfather, Doris and Garland Jones of Pikeville; his father and stepmother, George and Ruby Thornton of Goldsboro; a brother, Steve Thornton of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Kathy Trogden of Pikeville, Ann Cabaniss of Alabama; one brother, Steve Thornton of Colorado; one half-brother, Danny Frank of Pikeville; two half-sisters, Mawan Bunn of Goldsboro, Janice Miller of Roanoke Rapids; several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
