Northern Lights meets

28 February 2008 – Northern Lights members have been hard at work since the last meeting, which was held on January 16. The quilt committee has worked diligently. Once the squares had been candlewicked, they were sewn together with a border about eight inches wide, making the quilt queen sized. Three members put the quilt in and the quilting began. Nine members and one guest are participating in the actual quilting. The remaining members collected nine and a half pounds of drink tabs and cut 293 eye screeners to be used in schools. Two ladies cut heavy duty material for tote bags which are filled with hygiene supplies for abused women. Two other members volunteered to make the tote bags. All members brought in canned fruit cocktail, which will be delivered to the House of Fordham.

The big event the members look forward to is the Achievement Dinner, to be held March 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the Wayne Center. Food preparation will be done by Town and Country ECA, while Best Grove is responsible for decorations and favors. Sixteen members will attend.

The two new members, Frances Sauls and Belinda Brown, are a real asset to the club. Their talents are many.

Mary Jane Lancaster, one of three program coordinators, presented creative ideas for Cultural Arts. Chris Evans will present the program in April. For the month of March, the group hopes to have Dr. Jack Sauls, minister of Mount Nelson Baptist Church, to present a program on Identity Theft.

Kay Rose, in her devotion, warned against trying to steal God’s glory. In glorifying God, the world sees His glorious work. Ms. Rose also served as hostess.
