Covar places 5th for Aycock at NCHSAA Wrestling Tournament

28 February 2008 – The Falcon wrestlers finished out their season this weekend with four representatives at the NCHSAA State Wrestling Tournament.
Jarrett Covar had the highest finish for Aycock, earning fifth place in the 215 division.Covar

Covar started off his tournament run with a 2-1 win over Austin Haigler of Piedmont. He followed up with a second-round win against Brandon Allen of South Johnston, defeating Allen with a 4-2 decision.

Covar’s first loss came in the third round as he fell to Christian McLean of Southwest Guilford with a pin in 3:20. He had another loss in the consolation semi-finals, when he fell in overtime 2-1 to Eric Sims of Parkland.

Covar earned fifth place honors in the final match with a win against Jacob Mitchell of Lake Norman, winning with a 4-3 decision.Reid

Khiry Reid represented Aycock at heavyweight, finishing with a 1-2 record for the tournament. Reid started off with a first-round win 2-1 against Trinity’s Garrett Frank.

But an 8-6 loss in round two to Chase Gamble of North Gaston bumped Reid to the consolation bracket. He lost to Dixon Floyd of West Brunswick by default, ending his tournament run.

Kevin Carmel also went 1-2 at the 135 division for Aycock. After a first round loss by pin in 4:24 to Darius Hannah of TW Andrews, Carmel bounced back with a win in round one of consolation matches. He posted a 9-1 win against Langston Powell of West Guilford.Carmel

Carmel’s tournament run ended with a 6-2 loss in round two to Grennar McDowell of St. Stephens with a 6-2 decision.


GurleyDrake Gurley represented Aycock at 119, going 0-2 for the tournament. Gurley had a first round loss to Jarren Cooper of Parkland with a 4-0 decision. He was eliminated after a loss to Cody Sprowles of TC Robertson with a 3-0 decision.


Fremont Rescue and EMS BBQ

A barbecue chicken dinner sponsored by Fremont Rescue and EMS will be held on Sunday, March 2 starting at 11; eat in, take out, or drive-thru, at the EMS Building on Sycamore Street. Plates will be $6, with half a chicken, potatoes, beans, a roll, and a homemade desert.

The doors will open at 11, and the dinner will go until the food runs out.


Statewide burning ban

Due to hazardous forest fire conditions and the continuing drought, the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources have enacted a statewide burning ban.

Storytime for preschoolers

Preschool story time for children ages 2-5 is held at the Fremont Library on Monday mornings at 10 a.m. Children are invited to come and participate in songs, craft projects, and the reading of fun books.


Fremont Free Clinic

The Fremont People's Free Clinic is held every third Saturday of the month, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at 107 Ward Street. Please come fasting if you would like your labs checked.
