Pick the Hoops tiebreaker

21 February 2008 — The News Leader Pick the Hoops Contest was so tied up last week we had to get out the proverbial hat for a drawing.

There were too many upsets for anyone to sail through without a miss. With Duke falling to virtually everyone’s surprise, and no one could smell out all the winners in the other five contests, 4-2 was the best anyone could do, with most missing either Virginia’s win over Boston College, or Miami’s win at Georgia Tech.

There were seven who were tied at 4-2: Ken Langston of Princeton, David Jordan of Goldsboro, Dan Crawford of Raleigh, Billy Suggs of Goldsboro, Sherrie Jordan of Goldsboro, Bret Robinson, and Richard A. Mooring of Cape Carteret.

Both Mr. Langston and Mr. Jordan tied on the tie breaker, both predicting a 75-65 final score in the Clemson-NC State game, only five off the actual final of 71-64. Mr. Langston was declared the winner in a drawing.

He won two tickets to next Wednesday’s Florida State game at NC State.

Runner-up honors this week go to Donnie Hare, Phil Henry, Connie Lancaster and Wayne Leary.

Honorable mentions to Connie Ballance and Jim Shackleford.

This week, the final week for the Pick the Hoops Contest, we’ve got two tickets to NC State’s final home game: Duke on Sat., Mar. 1 at Noon. They could be yours, but you’ve got to enter first.

Cut out the entry in today’s News Leader, fill it out and drop it by our office by 5 p.m. Friday, mail it by 5 p.m. Friday, or enter by 5 p.m. online. It could be you going to the big game.

We hope you’ve enjoyed the contest.
