Upcoming election candidates21 February 2008 — Several local offices are on the ballot in May, and local citizens are filing for those offices. On the Wayne County School Board, seats for Districts 2 and 3 are up for election this year, as well as the Member at Large position. Incumbents Thelma Smith, Goldsboro and Shirley Sims, Dudley, have filed for the two district seats. Current member at large Pete Gurley has announced that he does not intend to run for another term, and two newcomers have filed for the seat. Eddie Radford of Goldsboro, who served as principal at Charles B. Aycock for several years, has filed to run for the seat. James Faulk of Dudley has also filed. All six county commissioner seats, as well as the commissioner at large seat, are on the ballot this year. Democrat Atlas Price, the current commissioner at large, has declared he will not seek another term, leaving the spot wide open for new faces. On the Republican side, Jeff Jennings and Hal Keck, both of Goldsboro, have filed to run. Democrats Chris Gurley of Goldsboro, Sandra McCullen of Dudley, and Darrell Horne of Goldsboro have also filed for the spot. The District 6 incumbent, Democrat Jack Best, has filed for re-election, and is currently unopposed. District 5 incumbent Bud Gray (Democrat) is challenged by Willie Ray Starling, who is running on the Republican ticket. The current District 4 commissioner, Republican Efton Sager, will not seek another term because he has filed to run for the House of Representatives. Republican Steve Keen and Democrat Denny Tart, both of Goldsboro, are vying for the open spot. Democrats John Bell and JD Evans, the incumbents for Districts 2 and 3, are currently unopposed. District 1 incumbent Andy Anderson doesn’t yet face a challenger from the opposing party, but Republican James Beckwith has also filed for the spot.
