Area science fair winners14 February 2008 — Saturday, February 2, Wayne County Public Schools hosted its annual system-wide Science Fair for students who have competed and won local science fairs held at their individual schools. The Science Fair was held in the Eastern Wayne High School cafeteria. The Science Fair had a K-2 classroom division, a 3-5 division, a middle school division, and a high school division. Middle and high school divisions were divided into earth, life, physical and technological areas, and there is a team division in high school. Twelve winners will now progress to the Regional Fair in Wilmington on February 16. The Results are as follows: Grades 3-5 Division Grades 6-8 Division Earth Physical Grades 9-12 Administrators say schools work hard to offer students creative ways to become excited about science and its impact on the world around them. The annual district Science Fair allows students to put their scientific skills to the test, and gives students with winning exhibits a chance to compete in larger competitions. Administrators say the preparation that goes into making a science project successful also helps students in other areas. “The Science Fair allows students to learn how to research online & use library resources, perform science experiments, use math to calculate results, and use English skills to write up experiment findings for their exhibits,” states Dr. Ralph Smith, Wayne County Public Schools' Lead Teacher for Science. Participation in the Science fair is completely voluntary for students.
