Fire damages Eureka home14 February 2008 — Four fire departments responded to this Eureka fire Monday afternoon. Statewide burning banA statewide burning ban went into effect today (February 14) at noon. Due to hazardous forest fire conditions and the continuing drought, the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources have enacted this ban. For further information, visit www.dfr.state.nc.us.Black History ProgramSaint James Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, of Fremont will have their annual Black History Program Saturday, Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. The program will be held at the church, which is located at 514 Memorial Church Road. The speaker will be Dr. James Mitchell of Cheltenham, Maryland. Also featured will be the Gospel Adores and the Fike High School Gospel Choir. A meal will be served. Come and be blessed.WCC Adult High School honorsWayne Community College’s Adult High School Program has honored 36 students for outstanding academic achievement in the Fall I and II sessions. To be named to the Scholars List, students must have taken at least two courses in the eight-week session and earned no grade lower than an A. Edward Clay of Pikeville was named to the list for Fall I. To be named to the Honors List, students must have taken at least two courses in the eight-week session and earned no grade lower than a B. Asia King of Pikeville was named to the list for Fall II. The Adult High School at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro offers a tuition-free program of courses for adults 16 years or older who want to complete their high school education. It is one of five programs in the Basic Skills Department that addresses the needs of Wayne County’s adult residents with below-high school education levels or who lack the basic skills necessary to function effectively in society.Storytime for preschoolersPreschool story time for children ages 2-5 is held at the Fremont Library on Monday mornings at 10 a.m. Children are invited to come and participate in songs, craft projects, and the reading of fun books. Fremont Free ClinicThe Fremont People's Free Clinic is held every third Saturday of the month, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at 107 Ward Street. Please come fasting if you would like your labs checked.
