Lady Falcons play hard against undefeated Bruins7 February 2008 — The Aycock ladies’ match-up with Beddingfield may have been incongruent, but the Aycock ladies represented themselves well against the undefeated Bruins. Nonetheless, the Falcons suffered a 75-31 loss. The Bruin defense virtually shut down Aycock’s powerhouse scorer Chantel Gaines, so the rest of the Falcons had an opportunity to shine as the game progressed. After a shot from Tori Benton just before the end of the first period, the girls kept from going scoreless for the quarter. Into the second period, the girls adjusted their play and tacked 11 points onto their score. But that wasn’t enough to topple the 35 points the Bruins had stacked up during the first half. The ladies added 20 more points to their score in the second half, but couldn’t keep Beddingfield from doubling that amount, finishing with a 44 point advantage. Friday’s game was an opportunity for Yolanda Pitt to shine, as she earned 16 points for the Falcons. Her record included three three-point field goals. Paige Garrett and Courtney Sheeks backed up Pitt, contributing four points each. Chantel Gaines had three points, while Benton had two. Kendra Speight and Lizzie Fortner each contributed a point. The Lady Falcons had a more competitive night against Kinston on Tuesday night. The ladies started off in a dead heat with Kinston, scoring nine points to their eight in the first period. Though the Kinston ladies had gained a six-point advantage before the half time buzzer, the Aycock ladies pulled back within two points of their opponents before the fourth period. But the Kinston girls surged ahead at the end, finishing with a 46-35 win over Aycock. Sheeks led the ladies offensively with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Gaines had nine points, as well as four steals and four rebounds. Pitt had seven points, and Benton had four. Stephanie Orosco and Briana Reid each contributed two points, and Reid also had six rebounds. The Aycock ladies play at home on Friday night against Hunt. This is their last home game of the season.
