Aycock, Bruin rematch ends in Falcon defeat7 February 2008 — After defeating Beddingfield in the last seconds on their previous encounter, the Falcons suffered a 57-49 loss to the Bruins on Friday night and giving the Beddingfield boys their first conference victory of the season. Aycock got off to a strong start, topping Beddingfield 15-9 at the end of the first period. But as the boys headed to halftime, their scoring virtually stopped. As the Bruins added on 19 points, the Falcons only scored three, giving Beddingfield a ten point advantage at the half. Aycock got back on its feet in the second half, but they couldn’t quite catch up to the Bruins. Despite scoring 31 points to Beddingfield’s 29, the Falcons couldn’t make up the defecit they suffered in the second period, and the Bruins captured the win. Khendre Reid was the lead scorer on Friday, earning 14 points for Aycock. David Gurganus had nine, while Jordan Riley had seven and Devon Newsome had six. Tyheim Pitt contributed four and Michael King added three. Isaac Ryals, Dominique Young, and Jonathan Williams each had two points. A Tuesday night loss to Kinston dropped the Falcons to 1-6 for the season. The Kinston boys stormed in, outscoring Aycock 22-9 by the end of the first quarter and mounting a 42-15 lead by halftime. The scoring barrage didn’t stop as the second half began, with Kinston earning 24 points and holding Aycock to 11 for the period. The Falcons came within a point of matching their opponents for the final period, but it couldn’t help the giant hole that Kinston had already dug. Kinston seized the win 78-39. Gurganus was the Falcon’s lead scorer on Tuesday, earning 15 points. Williams had six, and Andre Bryant had four. Riley and King each had three, and Pitt, Young, Reid, and Jordan Yawn contributed two apiece. The Falcons play their final home game on Friday night, Senior Night, against Hunt.
