Wrestlers win gold at S. Central

31 January 2008 — The Falcon wrestlers went 5-0 at the Friday Night Duals at South Central High School this past weekend, bumping the team to a 20-5 record overall.

Coach Mark Bass said he saw the best performance of his boys as a team and as individuals on Friday night.

“We wrestled smart in each match,” he said, “and gave up very few pin points throughout the event. That is paramount in being a good dual team.”

The Aycock boys defeated Hunt 53-15, and had a 52-11 win over Northern Nash. Their biggest win came with a sweeping defeat of Fike, 78-0. The Falcons also toppled DH Conley 67-12 and South Central 46-18.

Coach Bass noted key performances from Justin Farrell and Joseph Conner. Farrell (112) earned wins against opponents from Fike and South Central that he had lost to earlier this season. He said Conner wrestled his best so far this season, finishing the day at 5-0.

Drake Gurley, Brandon Bailey, Kevin Carmel, Josh Grimes, Jarrett Covar and Khiry Reid also earned a perfect 5-0 record for the tournament.
