Lady Falcons take beating from Southern, Eastern Wayne31 January 2008 — The Aycock girls showed a strong effort Friday night, but it wasn’t quite enough to topple the ladies from Southern Wayne. Coach Carrie Reynell said that the girls played well, but turnovers and unforced errors in the first half cost the girls the win. The Lady Falcons started off aggressively, earning 12 points and the lead after the first period. But as the ladies slipped up and committed those turnovers, the Saints gained an advantage. The Falcons were down 27-20 as they returned for the second half. Aycock couldn’t quite make up the gap as the game progressed, and fell behind a few more points each period, ending the game with a 56-43 loss. Chantel Gaines was the lead scorer for Aycock with 24 points Friday night. Yolanda Pitt had eight points, including a 3-pointer. Courtney Sheeks had seven points, and Brianna Reid and Stephanie Orosco each had two points. Pitt and Reid each had seven rebounds as well. The Aycock girls fell to 1-4 for the conference with a huge loss to Eastern Wayne on Tuesday night. The Warriors had a firm grip on the lead for the duration of the night. Eastern Wayne ended the first period with a 15-4 lead over the Falcons. Aycock came closest to catching the Warriors just before halftime, when they bumped to 15 points while Eastern Wayne had 27. But the Lady Falcons couldn’t keep the pace as the second half progressed. The Falcons only added 12 points during the half, while the Eastern Wayne girls racked up 48 points, clearly claiming the win 75-27. Sheeks was the lead scorer with eight points, and Gaines had seven. Tori Benton had six points. Pitt, Dori Oxendine, and Lizzie Fortner each had two points.
