Cobra girls make big win over Brogden20 December 2007 — The Norwayne girls’ basketball team continued their pattern of big wins this week, boosting their record to 4-0 with a huge win over Brogden. The Lady Cobra offense stormed in, with the defense close behind. Norwayne outscored Brogden 25-7 by halftime. Though Brogden made a little headway in the final period, scoring nine points while holding Norwayne to seven for the period, they couldn’t outdo the Lady Cobra’s shining performance earlier in the game. Norwayne finished with the win, 43-18. Brooke Bell was the lead scorer for Norwayne, with 13 points. Courtnei Gilbert and Imari Howell also earned double digits, with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Ivy Hartzell had seven points, while Kayla Williams had 2. Norwayne’s boys, however, didn’t fare as well at Brogden on Thursday, falling 44-16. Brogden came out much stronger than the Cobras, scoring 15 in the first period while Norwayne only had one basket. The Cobras only managed two more baskets before the half, while Brogden bumped their score to 25 points. The boys bounced back for the third period, matching Brogden’s 10 points, but scored no more for the rest of the night, while Brogden added nine more points for the win. AJ Mundle was the lead scorer for Norwayne with 4 points, while Ronnie Person had 3. Bryant Stafford, Hunter Jones, and Eric Murchison each had 2 points, while Greg Williams had one. Norwayne will resume play after the holiday break with a game at home on January 7 against Mount Olive.
