Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2008  

On January 21, 2008 the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Committee in conjunction with the City of Goldsboro and Wayne County will host the 20th observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.

Ads may be purchased for the souvenir program booklet. The deadline for all ads is Friday, December 14.

CERT training

The Fremont Rescue Squad will be hosting a CERT team informational meeting Tuesday December 18 at 7:00 p.m. for persons interested in forming a CERT team in their community or neighborhood. CERT is the acronym for Community Emergency Response Team, and it is a program sponsored through the FEMA Citizen Corps. Mel Powers, Wayne County Emergency Management Coordinator, will be conducting the meeting. Citizens throughout Wayne County are urged to attend.

Festival of Trees

The Family Support Network of Eastern North Carolina will present its Festival of Trees through December 21 at the Greenville Convention Center, 303 Southwest Greenville Blvd., Greenville.

Admission is free to see 100 holiday tree wonderland. Reservations are required for Story Time and Photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus, which costs $8 with one child in picture, $10 for two, and $12 for three.

All proceeds go toward providing emotional support and resource information for families who have a child with a chronic illness, premature birth, or disability, or who have experienced the death of a child.

Medicare plan D help

Open enrollment for Medicare D is through December 31, 2007. This is the time to change your drug plan, or get out of a Medicare Advantage Plan.

Wayne County Services on Aging, 100 John Street in Goldsboro, has Medicare counselors available. Appointments can be made on Tuesdays from 11-4, and other days on a limited basis. Call 731-1591 for an appointment.

WAGES, at 601 E. Royal Avenue in Goldsboro, is offering appointments on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Call Terry Davis, Medicare Counselor, at 734-1178 ext. 205 to set up an appointment.

Please remember to bring your Medicare card and a list of your current medications to your appointment.

Storytime for preschoolers

Preschool story time for children ages 2-5 is held at the Fremont Library on Monday mornings at 10 a.m. Children are invited to come and participate in songs, craft projects, and the reading of fun books.


Fremont Free Clinic

The Fremont People's Free Clinic is held every third Saturday of the month, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at 107 Ward Street. The next clinic will be held on the morning of December 15, and will provide free flu shots. Please come fasting if you would like your labs checked. The clinic is sponsored by Duke Med Students, Goshen Medical Center, and your local Fremont Area Health Coalition. Call 242-3126 or 242-8009 with questions.
