stantonsburg police report13 December 2007 – A Stantonsburg man has been charged for operating a dirty business in town. After officers received a report of illegal dumping by the boat ramp at Contentea Creek on December 2, they discovered a large trash pile had been dumped. Police Chief John Hunt said it appeared to be two truckloads full of garbage, mostly home improvement-type supplies and bags. Officers then searched for evidence of the culprit in the trash, and were able to trace the refuse back to a home in Evansdale. Upon questioning, the owners of the home reported that they had paid someone $25 to haul two loads of trash from their home to the landfill. They gave officers the name of the person, who upon investigation was found to be the litter bug. Michael Anthony Farmer of Stantonsburg was issued a citation for littering, and was given an appointment to clean up the debris and trash that he dumped. The Stantonsburg Police Department also reported the following incidents: On December 4, someone struck an outside wall of the Ultimate Wash Laundry Mat with a vehicle, then left the scene. The wall sustained an estimated $6,500 worth of damages. Stantonsburg Police were led on a brief chase on December 2, resulting in an array of charges for the driver. Officers were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 58 near the Commercial Street Extension when they observed a white van traveling towards them. They recognized the van, which belonged to Bobby Noel West, whose license the officers knew to be revoked. After Mr. West attempted to evade officers, a traffic stop was attempted, and Mr. West refused to stop. Officers pursued Mr. West down Highway 222 toward Saratoga, passing Bartee Bridge Road in excess of 100 mph. After crashing his vehicle on Waycross Road, Mr. West was apprehended. He was charged with reckless driving to endanger, possession of an open container of alcohol, speeding, driving while license revoked, and felony fleeing to elude arrest. He was taken to the Wilson County Jail under a $3,000 secured bond.
