Lady Falcons drop to 1-5

6 December 2007 – The Aycock girls’ basketball team dropped two games this week, and their record slipped down to 1-5 for the season.

Thursday night saw a 46-27 loss at Clayton, where the Aycock ladies held their own for much of the game. But ending up a few points behind at the end of each period added up to a 19-point loss for the Lady Falcons.

The girls were down seven points at the end of the first period, but had fallen into a 13-point hole by halftime. The Lady Falcons then scored only four points to Clayton’s 17 in the third period.

Though the Aycock girls had a surge of power at the end of the game, scoring 11 points while limiting Clayton to four, the damage had been done, and the Comets came out with the win.

Chantel Gaines was the lead scorer, putting 10 points on the board for the Falcons. Courtney Sheeks had five points, while Paige Garrett had four. Patrice Pittman, Stephanie Orosco, Tori Benton, and Brianna Reid each had two points.

The first period of Friday’s game, as Aycock hosted North Lenoir, showed promise for the ladies, but the North Lenoir offense pounced in the second period and didn’t let up for the rest of the night, leaving Aycock with a 48-35 loss.

The ladies came out strong, scoring 10 points in the first quarter while holding North Lenoir to four.

But North Lenoir would have none of that, and scored 19 points in the following period, while Aycock only added eight to the board.

The Falcons were outscored in the second half, 25-17, and the ladies dropped to 1-5 for the season.

Gaines was the lead scorer again, with 19 points during Friday’s game. Yolanda Pitt had seven points, while Stephanie Orosco had six, Paige Garrett had two, and Patrice Pittman had one.

The ladies were scheduled to play at Southwest Edgecombe on Wednesday night, and will travel to Goldsboro to take on the Cougars for the third time this season on Friday night.
