CHARLES DELANO BROWN
Charles Delano "Winky" Brown, 70, of Goldsboro, died suddenly on Thursday, November 29 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Charles was born in Wayne County on August 16, 1937 to the late James Ira Brown and Ida Baker Brown. He retired from Stackhouse, also known as Mastec, with 40 years of service. Charles was a member of Highest Praise Tabernacle and the Woodmen of the World. He served his country in the U.S. Army.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 2 at 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Mills officiating. Interment will be Monday, December 3 at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park with military honors.
Charles is survived by his children, Jimmy Brown of Grantham, Sandra Anne Overton of Pikeville, Betty Brown of Princeton and John Robert Brown of Grantham; his sisters, Hilda Green of Lufkin, Texas, and Annie Ruth Martin of Grantham; his grandchildren, Jonathan Brown, Ashley Whitfield, Joshua Overton, Noah Overton, Candace Bunn and Christopher Brown; and his great-grandchildren, Caiden Parrish and Nathan Parrish.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory for his daughter, Sandra Anne, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C. 27834 or to Highest Praise Tabernacle, 4138 West U.S. 70 Highway, Princeton, N.C. 27569.
The family will receive friends Sunday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
HUBERT L. REID
Hubert Lee "Sam" Reid, 78, of Fremont, died Tuesday, November 27 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Fremont with the Rev. Tedaro Reid officiating. Interment will be in the Fremont Cemetery.
He was the son of the late Arnold and Lucy Reid.
Three children survive.
Viewing will be 3-6 p.m. today (Friday) in the Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel of Goldsboro.

JAMES H. ADAMS
James "Jim" Howard Adams, 75, of Goldsboro, died Tuesday, November 27 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Jim was born in Flint, Michigan on April 19, 1932, to the late Omer Adams and Corrinne Ligen Adams. He was a retired superintendent with the City of Goldsboro garage. A U.S. Navy veteran, Jim was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 141 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the 82nd Airborne earning his Paratrooper Wings and Glider Wings. In 1954, Jim joined the U.S. Navy Seabees and served in Vietnam. While serving his country, he earned the Purple Heart, the Presidential Unit Citation and the Vietnam Ribbon with three stars among others.
A graveside service will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with full military honors. The Rev. Jackie Hill will officiate.
Jim is survived by his wife, Polly Hilbun Adams; his sons, Keith Adams and special friend, Angilee, of Mount Olive, Rodney Adams and wife, Teresa, and Denis Adams and wife, Robin, all of Fremont; his sister, Onna Elmy of Grayling, Mich.; his brother, Dale Adams of San Diego, Calif.; his grandchildren, Christy Strickland, Dale Adams, Heather Hinson, Jesse Adams, Lee Adams and Amanda McNally; and five great-grandchildren.
EVELYN D. BARNES
Evelyn "Philon" Barnes, 63, of Stantonsburg, died Saturday, November 24 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at St. James Holy Church in Stantonsburg with the Rev. Alonzo Braggs officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Burial Garden in Wilson. Viewing was 2-5 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel in Wilson and from 6-8 p.m. at St. James Holy Church with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m.
CHAD CAREY
Benjamin Chad Carey, 21, of Goldsboro, died Sunday, November 18.
Chad was born in Augusta, Ga., on April 4, 1986. He worked with Coca Cola Bottling Company in Goldsboro.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 23 at 2 p.m. at Saulston United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rick Ward officiating. Burial followed in the Patetown Cemetery.
Chad is survived by his father, Greg Carey and stepmother, Michelle, of Goldsboro; his sisters, Brittney Carey, Sarah Carey and Emily Carey, all of Goldsboro; his mother, Sabrena Stepp of Kentucky; his paternal grandfather, Ben Carey of Pikeville; his aunts and uncles, Diane and Johnny Herring, Pam and Donnie Ginn and Kim Bouillon; and seven cousins.
Arrangements are with Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
MABLE B. HALL
Mable B. Hall, 88, of Fremont, died Thursday, November 22 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 28 at St. James Disciples of Christ Church, Fremont, with the Rev. Tony Sutton officiating. Interment was in the Fremont Cemetery. Viewing was noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
She was the daughter of the late Marcellus Best and Sylvia Barnes. One child survives.
Arrangements are being handled by Rhodes Funeral Home, Goldsboro.
GRACE O. HOLMES
Grace Outland Holmes, 78, of Hialeah, Florida, formerly of Wayne County, died Thursday, November 15.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Rena Outland of Fremont.
She is survived by her husband, Bud Holmes, of the home, and three children.
Funeral was 11 a.m. Monday, November 19 at Palm Springs United Methodist Church.

ANNIE T. JORDAN
Annie Lucille Talton Jordan, 93, of Pikeville, died Sunday, November 25 after a period of declining health.
Born May 30, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Lillian Deans Talton. She was a long-time member of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Pikeville. For many years she served different families in Pikeville as a practical nurse.
Survivors include daughters, Roseitta J. Holland of Kenly, Christine J. Starling of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Richard Starling and wife, Angie, of Dunn, Jenny Hudson and husband, Freddie, of Kenly, Jerry Holland and wife, Angela, of Kenly; nine great-grandchildren, James Starling, Hunter Starling, Brianna Capps, Blake Capps, Britt Holland, Tanner Holland, Sydney Holland, Jordan Hudson and Eric Hudson.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 28 at Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Burial followed at Jordan Cemetery at White Oak Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Barry Stallings and the Rev. Al Keener officiated.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Braxton R. Jordan; and a son, Billy Ray Jordan.

MYRTLE D. PLEASANT
Myrtle Dean Pleasant, 84, of Garland, died Saturday, November 24 at Sampson Regional Hospital in Clinton.
Born December 9, 1922 in Harnett County, Mrs. Pleasant was a daughter of the late Thomas Frank and Ida Hardy Dean. She was a homemaker and a member of Garland Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 28 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson. Dr. Herbert Carter and Dr. Don Sauls officiated. Burial followed in Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier.
Surviving are her husband of more than 64 years, the Rev. Fred Pleasant; two sons, Julius Dean "Butch" Pleasant of Bluffton, S.C. and Tim Pleasant of Fremont; two daughters, Ann Cantwell of Sugar Land, Texas, and Teresa Wylie of Raleigh; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

JERRY STRICKLAND
Herman Jerry Strickland, 60, of Pikeville, died Monday, November 26 at his home after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Strickland was born in Johnston County on November 28, 1946 to the late Herman Jeffrey Strickland and Lillie Mae Godwin Strickland. He was retired from the Town of Pikeville maintenance department. He was a member of Blended Fellowship Church.
Graveside services will be Friday, November 30 at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Seymour officiating.
Mr. Strickland is survived by his wife, Shirley Witherington Strickland; his son, Jerry Strickland Jr. of the home; his daughter, Michelle Strickland of the home; his brother, Bobby Turner and wife, Judy, of Goldsboro; his sisters, Mary Williford and husband, Trellis, of Rocky Mount, Pat Fagala and husband, Jim, of Wilson and Jean Duncan and husband, Chick, of Evansville, Ind.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

ERNEST TEDFORD
Ernest Leroy Tedford, 88, of Goldsboro, died at his home on Monday, November 26.
Mr. Tedford was born in Vinita, Oklahoma on September 13, 191. He was the youngest of six children of Robert Tedford and Lizzie Brown Tedford. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Lilly Nix and Tilda Raney and brothers, Martin and Harley Tedford, all of California.
Mr. Tedford was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army in Germany and Korea. As a young man, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps throughout the southwest United States. He spent his childhood and young adulthood in LeFlore County, Okla., and worked as a horseman and farmer.
He was predeceased by wife, Daphne Deans Tedford of Middlesex in 1954; and second wife, Doris Parnell Tedford of Pikeville in 1981.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Eider-Orley, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his son, Joel David Tedford and wife, Vickie, of Oak Island, N.C.; three granddaughters, Angie Sheffield of Tucker, Ga., Nicole Tedford and Ashley Cummings of Oak Island, N.C.; and four great-grandchildren, Alli and Kate Sheffield, Matthew Cummings and Rylee Tedford. He is also survived by his sister, Nan Tedford of Los Angeles, Calif.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, Goldsboro.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Middlesex Church of God, Highway 231, Middlesex. Burial will follow at the Middlesex Church of God Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Paul Tedder of the Bailey Church of God. Mr. Tedford was a founding and active member of the Bailey Church of God which was started in 1959 by his father-in-law, the late Rev. Clemon H. Deans of Middlesex.
