29 November 2007 – Charles B. Aycock’s wrestlers got in two wins Wednesday night before the boys settled into their Thanksgiving break. Aycock hosted Greene Central and Princeton, and earned easy wins over both.
As the match began, the boys launched a streak of match wins that went until they hit the 145 division.
Khiry Reid kicked things off at heavyweight, winning with a pin in 42 seconds over his opponent.
JP Combs (103) and Justin Farrell (112) followed with a pair of wins by forfeit. Jacob Marple (135) also won by forfeit.
Drake Gurley (119) won with a pin in 48 seconds. Joseph Conner followed at 125 with a win by major decision, 13-3. Brandon Bailey won with a pin 25 seconds into his match in the 130 category, and Kevin Carmel followed suit, winning with a pin in 27 seconds in the 140 division.
The Falcons had their first of only two losses to Greene Central in the 145 class, where Brice Newsome lost by decision, 9-5.
The wins begin again at 152, as Ryan Butts won with a pin after 2 minutes and 40 seconds of mat time. Freddie Coley (160) earned a win with a pin in 1 minute, five seconds, and Josh Grimes (171) followed with another quick 45 second win by pin.
Cedric Sauls fell to Greene Central at 189 by pin, and Jarret Covar ended the match with a pin in 25 seconds for the 215 category. The Falcons earned a win with a final score of 70-9.
After a short break, the boys returned to take on Princeton, who put up a bit more of a challenge for the Falcons, winning four straight matches in the middle of the meet. But Aycock posted the win, with a final score of 59-18.
Combs and Farrell again won with a forfeit, and this time Gurley joined them. Conner won with a pin in 3 minutes, 31 seconds, and Bailey followed with a 46-second win by pin. Carmel was the last to win before Princeton took the reins for a while, winning by pin in 2 minutes, 52 seconds.
Princeton won the 145 class by forfeit, but seized wins in the 140, 152, and 160 categories
Grimes took the reins back, however, winning with a technical fail. This round, Brandon Thomas represented Aycock at 189, winning with a pin in 47 seconds. Covar won by forfeit, and Reid wrestled the longest match of the night to earn a win in 4 minutes, 52 seconds.
The Falcons were scheduled to trvel to West Johnston on Wednesday, and will wrestle this weekend in the Pierce Davis Invitational at Southwest Edgecombe.
