Falcons soccer team heads to third round of playoffs

8 November 2007 — The Aycock soccer team has earned another first for Falcon athletics as they entered the third round of state playoffs this Wednesday night. It was the first time an Aycock soccer team has progressed that far in the playoffs.

A pair of wins against Northern Vance on Wednesday and Erwin Triton on Saturday propelled the team into the third round, where they faced Jacksonville White Oak in a match-up that ended after press time.

Last Wednesday, the Falcons staked their claim in the playoffs with a 9-1 win against wildcard Northern Vance. Jorge Delgado had three goals for the night, while Alex Rodriguez and David Burke followed with two apiece. Joe Conner and Ethan Hawley also had a goal each for the game. Gavin Forrest had an assist.

Saturday night, the Falcons faced their first match-up with a ranked team, and came out soaring with a 5-1 win over Triton.

Delgado and Rodriguez each had a pair of goals, and Drew Mussleman added a fifth. In goal, Brandon Davis had eight saves to limit the Triton offense to one goal.

The results of the third round will be in next week’s edition.
