NANCY RAE BROWN

Nancy Rae Brown, 51, of Pikeville, died Tuesday morning, October 30, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.

Nancy was born in York County, Maine, to the late Bill and Bernice Patterson. She was a retired dispatcher for a taxi cab company in Biddeford, Maine.

A service to remember Nancy will be held for the family at a later date at Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church.

Nancy is survived by her companion of 15 years, John Paul LeDoux Jr.; her sons, James Harrington of Biddeford, Maine, and Shawn Brown of the home; and four grandchildren. She is also survived by her stepmother, Dorothy Patterson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the University of New England Medical College, 11 Hills Beach Road, Biddeford, Maine 04005.

MARGIE M. COLEMAN

Margie Macon Coleman, 86, of Raleigh, died Saturday morning, October 28, at Blue Ridge Health Care Center.

A native of Wake County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Macon and Minnie Hicks Macon. Mrs. Coleman was employed with North Carolina State University in the accounting department for many years before her retirement and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She is the widow of James Hubert Coleman Sr., who died in 1993.

She is survived by her sons, James H. Coleman Jr., of Dudley and J. Edward Coleman and wife, Chris, of Raleigh; daughter, Lynette C. Ostrowski and husband, Robbie, of Raleigh; sisters, Florine Holder and husband, Johnny, of Raleigh and Louise Caviness and husband, Leonard, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Richard Coleman and wife, Melissa, of Roxboro; Michelle Montgomery and husband, Tom, of Pikeville; Bobby and Brice Ostrowski of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Austin Coleman of Roxboro and Abigail Montgomery of Pikeville; step-great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Lindsey and Dylan Montgomery of Fuquay-Varina. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Meredith Stancil of Dudley.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, in the chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh. Interment followed in Raleigh Memorial Park

Donations can be made to the Meredith Stancil Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro.

SEDALIA SMITH GREEN

Sedalia Smith Green, 78, of Fremont, died Tuesday morning, October 30, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday, November 1) 7 p.m. in the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont. Elders John Hess and D. B. Stokes will officiate at this service. Elder John Hess will conduct a graveside service Friday, November 2 at 11 a.m. at the Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.

Sedalia was born in Wayne County on April 5, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Eli T. and Retha Blow Smith. She was preceded in death by her brothers, William H. "Billy" Smith and Eli T. "Pete" Smith Jr.

Sedalia was a graduate of Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College). After graduation, she had a 38-year career as a secondary teacher of English, French and drama. She taught at Pink Hill, Jamesville, Fremont and Charles B. Aycock. She finished her career in education by implementing the DARE program into the Wayne County schools for alcohol and drug prevention. She was the first woman board-member of the Heritage Bank in Fremont and also served as a member of the City Library Board in Fremont. She also was a member of Aycock Primitive Baptist Church.

Sedalia was preceded in death by her husband, David G. Green. She is survived by sister-in-laws, Jean S. Smith and Anne M. Smith; nieces, Brenda S. Baker, Billie Smith and Patricia S. Jackson; nephew, Linwood "Buddy" Smith; great-nieces, Jenny Jackson, Amy Gambill and Baylee Smith; great-nephews, Matthew Jackson and Daniel Smith; and an aunt, Margaret Coker.

The family will receive friends on Thursday following the funeral service at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home, 102 N. Pine St., in Fremont.

ELVA L. HALFACRE

Elva Lancaster Halfacre, 89, of Pikeville, died this morning (Thursday) at the Brian Center. Arrangements are incomplete with Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

PEGGY C. HODGES

Peggy Jean Coley Hodges, 68, formerly of Fremont, died at Columbus Hospital, Newark, N.J. on Wednesday, October 24. She resided in East Orange, N.J.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, October 28, at 2 p.m. from the Central Heights United Holy Church of Goldsboro, with Pastor Christine McKinnon eulogist. Interment was at Fremont Cemetery.

Peggy Jean is survived by Angless Hodges and LaBeech Hodges, both of Turkey, N.C.; a devoted sister, Janice Jackson of Washington, D.C.; a devoted brother, James Coley of Washington, D.C.; her loving grandchildren, Russell Wilson, Curtissa Brunson, Precious and Princess Hodges; and a host of other relatives and friends.

MOLLIE E. KIRBY

Mollie Edmundson Kirby, 95, died Sunday, October 28.

Mrs. Kirby was born in Wayne County on September 8, 1912, daughter of the late Burrell and Bessie Lancaster Edmundson. She graduated from Pikeville High School, became a teacher, and taught at Grantham and Eureka schools for 33 years. She was a lifelong member of Antioch Free Will Baptist Church and served as church treasurer for over 30 years.

Funeral services were held at Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro on Tuesday, October 30, at 2 p.m., with internment following in Musgrave Cemetery.

Mrs. Kirby is survived by her daughter, Sandra Kirby Ingram, and son-in-law, J. R. Ingram; two grandchildren, Betsy Ingram Jenkins, and husband, Jason Jenkins, and David Burrell Ingram of Raleigh; one great-grandson, James Austin Jenkins of Raleigh; two brothers, Henry Edmundson and wife, Joanne, and Roscoe Edmundson and wife, Clara, of Pikeville; four sisters, Lawlos Bland of Orlando, Fla., Atha Tunnell of Hertford, Bertha Davis of Fremont and Ruth Hokum of Swansboro; and by many loved nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Kirby; parents, Burrell and Bessie Edmundson; brother and sister-in-law; Jim and Elma Edmundson; brother, B. J. Edmundson; sister and brother-in-law, La Dell and Charles Shackelford.

CHARLOTTE A. MARTIN

Charlotte A. Martin, 71, of Pikeville, died Thursday, October 25 at home after a battle with pancreas cancer.

Charlotte was born in Floyd County, Ky. on January 19, 1936, to the late Frank Clark and Victoria Jacob Clark. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 27 at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Hill F.W.B. Church. The Rev. Chuck Owens officiated. Burial followed at Wayne Memorial Park.

Charlotte is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dale L. Martin; one daughter, Deborah Martin of Rosewood; sons, Gary Martin of Marino Valley, Calif. and David Martin of Henderson; one sister, Mary Mason of Florida; four brothers, Dickie Clark of Indiana, James Clark, Joe Clark and Charles Clark, all of Kentucky; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by one daughter, Denise Martin; two sons, Michael Martin and Randall Martin; and one sister, Billie Yvonne Clark.

LENA L. PRIDGEN

Lena Lucas Pridgen, 79, of Fremont, died Friday, October 26 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Goldsboro.

She was the widow of William Donnie Pridgen.

The funeral was held Sunday, October 28, at Wilson Memorial Service.  

Surviving are several nieces and nephews including David Reason, Jr. of Fremont.

RONNIE ALLEN SUTTON

Ronnie Allen Sutton, 42, of Hookerton, died Tuesday, October 30 at home.

He was a sergeant in the Kinston Police Department.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 2 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home, with Dr. Gene Martin officiating. Friends and family will be received today (Thursday) from 7 to 9 p.m. at Howard-Carter Funeral Home and other times at the home. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in LaGrange.

He is survived by his wife, Malissa A.C. Sutton of the home; his mother, Wanda S. Coburn of LaGrange; stepfather, Charles Coburn of LaGrange; brother, Curtis G. Sutton of LaGrange; "favorite" sister-in-law, Robin Sutton of LaGrange; nephew, Dillon Fleming of Pikeville; niece, Deanna Fleming of LaGrange; and stepsister, Briget Rice of Farmville. Ronnie was preceded in death by his father Albert James "AJ" Sutton; his paternal grandparents, Mabel Rouse Sutton and Thomas Henry Sutton; and his maternal grandmother, Naomi T. Davis.
