The award is part of NC Beautiful's 22nd annual Azalea Celebration, which rewards North Carolina community groups for improving their communities through creative landscape projects.

"This is the first time that our school has received this outstanding recognition from WRAL-TV 5," said Principal Mario Re. "Planting the azaleas will be a hands-on activity beneficial for the beautification of our campus. The students will gain an appreciation of science and the environment."

Sixth grade students will plant the azaleas on the school's campus in various locations. Parents are also volunteering to help with the project.
