WOODROW CARNES Harry W. Carnes, 86, of Goldsboro, died Thursday evening, October 11, at Britthaven Nursing Home in Smithfield. Woodrow was born in Lucketts, Va., on October 1, 1921 to the late Arthur and Bessie Newton Carnes. He was a Federal Civilian employee of the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1973 after 33 years of service. Woodrow was a veteran of World War II and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve from April 27, 1957, to Jan. 3, 1972. He was a member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church in Pikeville. Funeral services were held Monday, October 15 at 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Creech officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Woodrow is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eloise V. Carnes; his son, Kenneth W. Carnes of Pikeville; his brother, Paul W. Carnes of LaPlata, Md.; two nephews and two nieces. EXUM E. CASEY Exum Eugene Casey, 54, of Grantham, died Thursday, October 11 at home. A memorial service was held Saturday, October 13 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory. Kent Grantham officiated. Mr. Casey was born in Wayne County on Feb. 20, 1953, to Zelma Speight Casey of Grantham and the late William Casey. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sandra Casey; two sons, Keffer Casey and his wife, Michelle, of Mount Olive and Tim Johnson of Alabama; two daughters, Kim Whitted and her husband, Ray, of Mount Olive and Krystal Sykes and her husband, Chris, of Grantham; two sisters, Ginger Casey of Grantham and Yvonne Willoughby and her husband, Earl, of Fremont; and five grandchildren, Halen Sykes, Rhianna Sykes, Casey Whitted, Caleb Whitted and Connor Casey. CHRISTIAN A. FRAZIER Christian Andrew Frazier of Pikeville died Thursday, October 11. He was a member of Bethel Church. He is survived by his wife, Kristen; his parents, Ru and Tami Frazier; a sister, Payton Frazier; and his "like a brother," Tim Olanavich, all of Fremont; his brother, Joshua Frazier and wife, Tina; three nieces, Chassidy, Emily and Caitlyn; one nephew, Lathan; and grandmother, Carrie Jones Hawley. A memorial service was held Saturday, October 13 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Church on Williams Street in Goldsboro, with pastor Steve Holder officiating. Memorials may be made to Bethel Church, 2308 N. William St., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530. These will be given to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to fund research.
JOSEPHINE S. GRAVES Josephine Smith Graves, 62, of LaGrange, died Saturday, October 13 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Born in Richlands on April 12, 1945, she was the daughter of the late William Joseph and Marie Gregory. She attended White Oak Free Will Baptist Church in LaGrange and was a former employee of Textilease. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 16 at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home in Goldsboro, with Pastor Greg Stancil officiating. Burial followed in Westview Cemetery in Kinston. She is survived by her husband, Ed Graves; three sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth Ray and Susan Smith, Robert "Shorty" and Teresa Smith, and Mark Allen and Debbie Smith, all of Goldsboro; two brothers, William Gregory of Warsaw and Bobby Gregory of Dudley; three sisters, Helen Grady and Ann Rivenbark, both of Goldsboro, and Linda Corbett of Fremont; a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Mickey Joyner of Kinston; a brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Mary Graves of Maury; and eight grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Corey Smith, Timothy Ryan Smith, Dustin Allen Smith, William Bland, Diana Marie Smith, Dillon Smith and Christopher Bland. SUE GREEN Jennie Susan Green, 66, of Goldsboro, died Friday evening, October 12, at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Sue was born on November 2, 1940 in Wayne County to the late Pete Cooke and Minnie Best Cooke. She was married to the late Bill Green. Sue was a retired registered nurse with Wayne Memorial Hospital. She attended Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Sue had been a member of the Goldsboro Rescue Squad and the North Carolina Rescue Squad Ladies Association. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Williams. Interment was held Monday, October 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park. Sue is survived by her daughter, Dana G. Sasser and husband, Richard of Kenly; her grandchildren, C.J. Radford and Brooke Radford; her sisters, Evelyn Ingram of Goldsboro and Faye Price of Goldsboro. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Free Chapel P.F.W.B. EULA M. INGRAM Eula Mae Ingram of Goldsboro died Saturday, October 13. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, October 17, at McIntyre Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Fremont Cemetery.
JEAN I. MILLS Jean Ingram Mills, 73, of Goldsboro, died Tuesday, October 16. Jean was born in Wayne County on September 13, 1934 to the late Raymond Carlton Ingram and Bessie Lee Howell Ingram. Jean was a faithful member of Eureka Christian Church. Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Friday) at 2 p.m. at Eureka Christian Church, with the Rev. Frank Purvis officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. Jean is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Roy C. Mills; her sons and daughter-in-law, Roy Wayne Mills and wife, Donna, of Goldsboro and Randy Lee Mills of Goldsboro; her sister, Edna Thornton of Mount Olive; her brother, Carroll Ingram of Goldsboro; and her granddaughters, Pamela Jean M. Stewart and husband, Daniel, of Goldsboro and Donnarie Mills of Greenville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sisters, Dale Lewis and Gale Ingram. WALL Cecil Robert Wall, 90, of Pikeville, died Tuesday, October 16 at Britthaven of Goldsboro. He was born in Wayne County on November 2, 1916 to the late Robert and Nannie Wall. He is survived by his wife, Fannie Wall, and six children. Graveside services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at Pikeville Cemetery. Visitation will follow the service. Arrangements are by Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home, 102 N. Pine St., Fremont. HELEN B. WEEMS Helen Barbara Weems of Pikeville died Tuesday, October 16 at Britthaven of Smithfield. Arrangements are incomplete at Lightner Memorial Funeral Home of Goldsboro.
