CBA takes homecoming victory over Kinston

18 October 2007 — For much of the season this year, Charles B. Aycock's football team has seemed to be just missing the mark - a good team seemed to fall short of putting it all together to score the touchdowns and bring in a win.

But Friday night, it all came together for the Falcons at their homecoming game as they defeated Kinston 30-13.

As the game got started, some may have seen signs predicting a less than stellar night for Aycock. The Vikings were the first to put points on the board, but it seemed that one scoring drive sparked something in the Falcons, who held off another score from Kinston until little more than a minute remained in the game.

It was the Aycock offense that shined Friday night. Soon after the Kinston boys slipped across the goal line, the Falcons retaliated with a touchdown of their own before the end of the first quarter.

Jacob Pendleton earned a second touchdown for the Falcons, dragging a pair of Kinston defenders as he charged across the goal line. Alex Roosen boosted the Aycock lead before half-time with a 35-yard field goal, setting the score at 17-7.

When the teams took the field for the second half, the Falcon's energy seemed to be reaching a high point. On the first play of the second half, quarterback Ian Calder got away from the Viking defense and charged 80 yards for a third Aycock touchdown.

The Aycock defense held the Vikings back as Aycock banked one more touchdown to give them a 23 point edge. Kinston managed to slip by for a second touchdown with little more than a minute remaining, but Aycock went home with a well-earned win on their scorecard with a memorable homecoming game.

The Falcon offense rolled up 100 yards of offense in the air alone. Calder led in passing, earning 50 yards on three passes. Dalton Lewellan earned 32 yards on one pass, while Jacob Pendleton earned 13 and Devin Sanders earned five.

But the Aycock boys earned most of their yardage on the ground. Calder had an impressive night, gaining 134 yards on 16 runs and earning two touchdowns. Tyheim Pitt earned 92 yards on 11 runs. Pendleton and Blake Cooper each earned 22 yards, while Kelton Lewis had 17 yards and Sanders had 5.

The Falcons are on the road this week, playing their last away game of the season. Aycock will take on Hunt in Wilson this Friday night.
