Pigskin upsets Saturday for pickers

11 October 2007

It was an upset laden Saturday the fooled all of our Pigskin Pickers.
No one was able to correctly pick all six games in last week’s Pigskin Pickin’ Contest correctly. Only four could get as many as five correct.
In the tie-breaker, two of those four went for Central Florida to beat ECU, so they were eliminated, and for the second week in a row, we had a very high scoring game for the tie-breaker that no one foresaw.
Besides the ECU win, the other big upset was UNC over Miami, which was the only miss on Lanell Brown’s and Matt Spence’s entries. The Eureka area neighbors were also in the neighborhood when it came to their predictions, with Ms. Brown predicting 27-20 versus Mr. Spence’s 28-17. Her prediction was two points closer to the actual 52-38 final score to secure the win.
For her winning entry, she scored two tickets to the NCSU at ECU game next Saturday.
The other two missing just one were: Billy Suggs and Tommy Whitley.
Runner-ups go to: Daisy Best, Eddie Davis, Brady Grantham, H.T. Grantham, Nell Grantham, Scott Hales, Valerie Howell, Lorenzo Jackson, Mike King, Jane Lancaster, Kevin Narron, Mario Re, Jay Shackleford, Jim Shackleford, Stephen Tart and Lee Toler.
Honorable mentions go to: Connie Ballance, James Ballance, Brent Gurganious, David Hill, Devone Jones, Chris Keen, Terry Mattews, Regina Melvin, Curtis Neal, Todd Rose, Nathaniel L. Sanders Jr., Kylie Suggs, Denny Tart, Dean Worley and Eddie Yelverton.
We’ve got two more sets of tickets to give away to next Saturday’s NCSU-ECU game, and they could be yours. Cut out the entry in today’s paper and mail it in, bring it by our office, or enter online at www.newsleadernow.com.
