Cobra volleyball in rare form for fall, 7-0

Norwayne’s volleyball team continued their winning streak, boosting their conference record to an impressive 7-0 with two wins this week.
The girls sailed to a victory Thursday night against Greenwood, easily pulling in points during the first game, which they won 25-6. Greenwood put up a fight in the second game, but the Cobras pulled out a second win, 26-24. A third game win of 25-11 gave the ladies the victory.
Conner Davis had 13 service points, while Imari Howell followed close behind with 12.
The girls played a similarly strong game Monday night as they hosted Mount Olive Middle. The girls earned a win in three games, with final scores of 25-7, 25-15, and 25-11. Davis was again a key player, earning 17 service points, while Courtnei Gibson earned eight.
The win put the ladies at 2-0 for the division. They will play again Thursday afternoon at Eastern Wayne.
The coed soccer team also had an impressive week, with two wins as well.
The Cobras defeated Greenwood 6-3 on Thursday night. Juan Pina led the team offensively with three goals. Bryan Johnson had two goals, while Trey Millard had one goal and two assists, and Jose Rodrigues had two assists.
Defensive leaders were Madison Mercer, Cameron Taylor, and Cade Ivey. Goalkeeper Nick Hilker had six saves in goal.
The Cobras had similar success Monday night, defeating Mount Olive Middle 5-1. Johnson led the scoring with two goals, while Pina had one goal. Rodrigues had a goal and two assists, while Samantha Parrish had a goal and one assist. Trey Millard had two assists for the game.
Defensive leaders included Ivy, Taylor, Mercer, Taylor Phillps, and Chase Thompson. Hilker had four saves for the game.
The soccer team will also play again on Thursday afternoon, traveling to Eastern Wayne.
