JV, varsity tennis wins
Both the varsity and junior varsity tennis teams at Charles B. Aycock posted wins against Southern Wayne this Thursday.
The varsity girls won seven out of nine matches, with wins from Courtney Barnes, Emilee Quinn, Kristen Bennett, Jessica Davis, and Mallory Strickland. The first and second seeded doubles teams of Barnes-Quinn and Kristen Prosser-Bennett also posted wins.
Coach Luke Vail said he was proud of the girls’ performance, especially after two tough losses earlier in the week.
“We are a much improved team over the last half of the season,” he said.
The win puts the girls at 8-2 for the conference and 12-7 overall.
Meanwhile, the junior varsity swept Southern Wayne Thursday night, with no girl allowing more than four points from her opponent.
The junior varsity win brings the team to 5-0 for the conference and 10-4 for the season.
The JV was set to take on Rocky Mount Academy on Wednesday.
