CBA Falcons smacked down by Bruins, 41-7

11 October 2007

As the Falcons prepared to take on Beddingfield last Friday, a lot of things looked in their favor. The Aycock boys were coming off an open week following their first win of the season against North Lenoir.
But Coach Randy Pinkowski acknowledged that it was still a bit of an uphill battle for the Falcons.
“This week we must play mistake-free football, keeping turnovers down and staying out of penalty-induced third and long,” he said on Thursday. But mistake-free football was not a reality for the Falcons, who began conference play with a 41-7 loss to Beddinfield.
The Falcons started off with a strong game, trailing by just seven points at the half. But a single touchdown that tied the game at 7-7 in the second quarter would prove to be the only scoring drive of the game for Aycock.
Both teams started off with a tight game, with the score staying as zero for the first quarter. But it was the Bruins who broke through first to score. However, the Falcons answered with a touchdown of their own, followed by a successful kick from Alex Roosin to tie the score.
However, the Bruins weren’t turning in yet, doubling the Aycock score before halftime.
Early on in the third quarter, a fumble by the Aycock boys was recovered by the Bruins and launched 15 yards down field for a third touchdown. And from that point on, the Bruins dominated the game. Another touchdown followed before the end of the quarter, and two more in the fourth led the Bruins to a sweeping victory.
Despite the low scoring results of the Falcons, Tyheim Pitt played an excellent offensive game Friday night. Pitt was responsible for the only touchdown for the Falcons, a 30-yard run to put six on the board in the second quarter. Pitt earned a total of 98 yards on 14 runs Friday night, contributing almost half of the team’s total offense. Devin Sanders also stands out, with 57 yards earned on 12 runs, and Ian Calder had 19 on five. The Falcons earned a total of 193 yards rushing.
In the air, quarterback Zach Poole gained 19 yards on 3 passes to Jacob Pendleton, bringing the total offense for the Falcons to 215.
The Falcons return home this week for their Homecoming came, taking on the Kinston Vikings at Hardy Talton Stadium.
