RANDY D. BARNETT Randy Dee Barnett, 41, of Dudley, died Sunday, September 30 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Born in Wayne County on July 2, 1966, he was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Platt Barnett. He was a 1984 graduate of Southern Wayne High School and was employed with C&M Plumbing. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 3 at 11 a.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Adkins officiating. Burial followed in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive. Randy is survived by his father and stepmother, John and Sally Barnett of Dudley; two sons, Joshua Paul Barnett and John Ethan Barnett, both of Pikeville; one brother, Kirk Barnett and wife, Connie, of Dudley; three sisters, Dottie Snyder and husband, Gary, of Summerville, S.C., Darnell Potter and husband, Keith, of Mount Olive, Sandy Knowles and husband, Curt, of Fayetteville; two stepsisters, Lori W. Ammons of Seven Springs, Kelly W. Bradley of Deep Run; several nieces and nephews; the love of his life, Suzanne; and special friends, Dale and Betsy. The family is being served by Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and online condolences may be sent through www.shumate-faulk.com. WILLARD L. DAVIS JR. Willard L. Davis Jr., 79, of Wilson, died Tuesday, October 2. He was born on March 23, 1928. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, October 5 at 3 p.m. in the Fremont Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Langley and the Rev. Gary Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Nancy B. Davis of the home; one daughter, Lee Anne Davis of the home; one son, Michael Davis of Black Creek; two sisters, Hazel Van Roekel of Goldsboro and Nannie Mae Moore and husband, Bill, of Raleigh; one brother, Roland Van Davis and wife, Jean, of Kenly. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening at Shingleton Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. and other times at the residence. The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to Wilmed Hospice, especially to Annette Kirby and Laura Harris. Arrangements are being handled by Shingleton Funeral Home of Wilson. MINNIE S. HILL Minnie Smith Hill, 81, of Stantonsburg, died suddenly on Monday, October 1 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Minnie was born in Johnston County on April 1, 1926 to the late Nick Smith and Virginia Mitchell Smith. She was a member of Yelverton United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher. Along with her husband, they owned and operated Hill's Grocery Store in Faro. Minnie had also volunteered as a 4-H leader. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Greg Moser officiating. Burial will follow in Eureka Cemetery. Minnie is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, James Irwin "Irvin" Hill; her son, James Dennis Hill and wife, Peggy, of Stantonsburg; her daughters, Donna H. Cuthbertson and husband, Barry, of Belize, Central America, Terri H. Ervin and husband, Dean, of Grifton; her grandchildren, Holly Lutze, Lisa West and husband, Brian, T.J. Hill, Dennis Hill Jr., Stewart Ervin Jr. and wife, Lindsey, Justin Ervin and Jeremy Ervin; and her great-grandchildren, Matthew Lutze and Colby Ervin. She is also survived by her brothers, Ray Smith and wife, Blois, of Princeton and Buck Smith and wife, Ginny, of Princeton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lillie Mae Edwards; and her brothers, Dock Smith, Willie Smith and Nick Smith Jr. The family received friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home, 778 Herman Lane Road, Stantonsburg. CORA HINNANT Cora Hinnant, 82, of Pikeville, died Thursday, September 27 in the Brian Center. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, September 30, at First Missionary Baptist Church in Lucama, with the Rev. Odell Forte officiating. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery, Wilson.
GENEVIEVE S. MCSHERRY Genevieve "Jenny" Sanders McSherry, 83, died Monday, October 1 at her home. Jenny was born in Fairfield, Pa. on March 18, 1924 to the late Marion Sanders and Alice Richardson Sanders. She was married to the late John E. McSherry. Jenny was retired civil service, having worked as the secretary for the base commander at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. She was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 5 at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Littlestown, Pa. Burial will follow in Saint Aloysius Cemetery. She is survived by her daughter, Donna McSherry Phipps of Goldsboro; her grandchildren, Joell Fitzmorris and husband, Shawn, of Pikeville and Paula White and husband, Jimmy, of Goldsboro; and her great-grandchildren, Niki Fitzmorris, A.J. Fitzmorris and Lauren White. The family received friends in Goldsboro at Seymour Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and will receive friends in Littlestown, Pa., at Littles Funeral Home today (Thursday) from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 8 p.m. FRANKLIN D. SMITH Franklin D. Smith, 73, of Pikeville, died Thursday, September 27 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was born in Wayne County on July 26, 1934. Three children survive. All services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C. 27834 The family is being served by Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
CLARA K. TAYLOR Clara Kornegay Taylor, 72, of Glen Cove, New York, formerly of Pikeville, died suddenly Sunday, September 30 at North Shore Hospital. Born on June 6, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Sarah Harper Kornegay. She attended school at Pikeville Training School in Pikeville. She relocated to New York in 1956, where she met and married Arthur Taylor. Funeral service will be held at a later date at First Baptist Church in Glen Cove, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Taylor; a brother, Joseph Kornegay; a son, Linwood Kornegay; and a sister, Margaret Mosley, who died on August 21 of this year. She is survived by two daughters, Belinda Kornegay of Fremont and Audrey Taylor of Smyrna, Ga.; one son, Arnold Taylor, of the home; one brother, James Kornegay of Jamaica, N.Y.; four sisters, Annie K. Mitchell of Bronx, N.Y., Mary K. Wester and husband, Charles, of Princeton, Shirley K. Sykes of Goldsboro, and Alma K. Sanders of Fremont; eight grandchildren, including Jacovi Bonnie, whom she reared; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
