Flu shots available for seniors

4 October 2007 — It's time to get your flu shot!

Maxim Health Systems is teaming with The Pines of Goldsboro Assisted Living to offer immunizations to individuals who are at high risk of receiving complications from the flu, those who live or work with high-risk individuals, or those who just want to reduce their chances of contracting the flu. Shots will be available to the public on Monday, October 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Pines of Goldsboro, 380 Country Day Road, on a first-come, first-served basis. Prior registration is required and can be scheduled by calling Georgia Dees or Trisha Capps at 735-5117. Any participant with Medicare Part B coverage will receive their shot at no cost. Maxim will also provide free immunization to anyone covered by Maxim contracted Managed Care Plans (if participating, you will be notified by your Health Plan). All others not covered by the Plans above will purchase their vaccinations through Maxim Health Systems at the time of the shots. Prices are $30 for flu and $40 for pneumonia vaccinations.

Maxim Health Care will also offer shots at the Senior Health Fair, to be held Wednesday, October 10 at the Wayne County Agricultural Center, 208 West Chestnut Street, Goldsboro. The shots will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring your Medicare card and get your flu shot at no cost. Hearing screenings, blood pressure checks, blood sugar and cholesterol screenings will be provided at no cost to senior citizens age 60 and above. Cholesterol count screenings are available for those under 60 at a cost of $5.

Flu shots at the Senior Health Fair will be available for $30, private pay. Pneumonia shots will be $45 private pay. The site will be unable to accept BCBS insurance cards due to Blue Cross regulations. For more information, call 731-1586 or 731-1588.
