Lady Falcons score conference wins over S. Wayne, Beddingfield

27 September 2007 — Charles B. Aycock’s varsity girl’s tennis record moved to 8-5 for the season this week, as the girls tacked on two more conference wins and suffered a non-conference loss to Wilson Fike.

Last Tuesday the Lady Falcons earned a 7-2 win over Southern Wayne, with one singles loss and one doubles loss. Courtney Barnes, Emilee Quinn, Kristen Bennett, Jessica Davis, and Mallory Strickland all notched singles wins, while Barnes and Quinn and Kristen Prosser and Bennett earned doubles wins.

Wednesday brought a close match with Fike, ending in a 5-4 loss for the Falcons. Barnes and Bennett earned singles wins. Doubles wins from Prosser and Bennett and Ashley Howell and Kristen Fischer put the Falcons just short of a win.

Coach Luke Vail said that though the ladies came up short in points, the effort from the team was outstanding.

“Kristen Bennett played flawless tennis at number four singles, and Courtney did a great job of bouncing back from a 5-3 deficit,” he said.

But the ladies bounced back in conference play on Monday, sweeping Beddingfield to bring their conference record to 5-1 for the season.

The junior varsity team had one game this  week, earning a win over Southern Wayne. Hollie Baker, Alicia Sodoma, Nicole Kessler, Abbey Strickland, and Harlie Howard all earned wins in singles, and all three doubles teams for the Lady Falcons earned wins.

The JV team hosted Eastern Wayne Wednesday evening, while the varsity team traveled to Kinston.
