Aycock eludes N. Lenoir for the win, 13-627 September 2007 — Aycock had just scored what looked to be a clinching touchdown, but a determined North Lenoir squad seemingly had an answering score in store. That was until Tyheim Pitt made the play for CBA. Pitt’s interception with 40 seconds left in the game put an end to the Hawk bid and an end to the Falcons’ early season frustrations in a 13-6 win at Hardy Talton Field Friday. The win leaves Aycock at 1-5 on the year, heading into conference play. North Lenoir took the lead in the second quarter, but Aycock answered, solving the Hawk defense that was stacked to stop the option. Using Pitt for punishing runs up the middle, NL was softened for a drive. Ian Calder scored on a seven yard run, and Alex Roosen’s extra point gave Aycock a 7-6 advantage going into the half. The two teams struggled to establish a consistent drive during much of the game, but CBA was winning the field position battle. When a punt gave Aycock the ball at their own 49 midway through the fourth quarter, the Falcon running game ground out a scoring drive. Quarterback Ian Calder called on Pitt and Devin Sanders for 14 and nine-yard runs, respectively, but called his own number for much of the yardage to the goal line. The drive almost stalled at the NL 2, but on a fourth and inches, Caulder’s QB sneak got the necessary yardage to keep the drive alive. Zack Poole got the next snap and went in behind his big line to open the lead out to 13-6. North Lenoir blocked the extra point to stay within seven. The Aycock defense looked to have the Hawks stopped after the ensuing kickoff, forcing a fourth down at their 36, four yards short of a first down. That was when NL started looking like a team of destiny, breaking a screen pass for a 15 yard gainer, and then a 19 yard pass play to take it to CBA’s 32. The NL faded back to pass again, but this time the Aycock defenders got some pressure on the QB, and Pitt made his big play. Calder led the Aycock attack with 97 yards on 22 carries. Pitt had 9 carries for 44 yards. Calder also hit on two passing attempts, hitting Jacob Pendleton for two completions for 24 yards. The Falcons come off the win with an off week before starting conference play against Beddingfield on October 5.
