Pigskin results

20 September 2007 — Denny Tart of Rosewood is known a bit for goat farming, but he apparently knows his way around pigskins pretty good, too.

The Wayne County educator and big 4-H supporter was this week’s winner in the News Leader Pigskin Pickin’ Contest.

In a week of upsets, he got all but one game in the contest correct (Duke’s upset of Northwestern), one of only three entries to get five of six right, and he nosed out Valerie Howell of Smithfield by a single point in the tie-breaker, predicting a 24-20 final in the Virginia win, just two points off the actual 22-20.

Also missing just one was Lanell Brown of Eureka.

Runner-ups this week were: Eleanor Gooding, Brent Gurganious, Devone Jones, Chris Keen, Mario Re, Billy Suggs, Stephen Tart, and James Vinson.

Honorable mentions go to: James Balance, Mike King, Todd Rose, Nathaniel L. Sanders Jr., Matt Spence, Bruce Thomas, and Eddie Yelverton.

Mr. Tart won two tickets to the ECU game Oct. 6, when they host the Golden Knights of the University of Central Florida.

This week we have two more sets of tickets up for grabs.
