New notch for Lady Falcons

20 September 2007 —Things seem to be looking up for the varsity volleyball team at Charles B. Aycock as the ladies notched their second win of the season this week and boosted their conference record to 1-1.

Thursday evening, the ladies battled Kinston in a five-game match. In a tight first game, the Lady Falcons won 27-25, only to be defeated in the second game 25-20. The third game saw a more precise performance for the ladies with a final score of 25-16. Kinston battled back in the fourth game, defeating the Falcons 25-18, but the determined Aycock squad captured the win with a 15-9 victory in the fifth game.

Bridgette Briggs played one of her strongest games this season, with 17 kills overall, as well as five aces and a block. Beth Carter also played well, recording 12 kills and five aces.

The victory on Thursday evened up a conference record that started with a disappointing loss to Beddingfield on Tuesday night. After winning the first game 25-23, Aycock lost three in a row to the Bruins, with final scores of 25-21, 25-12, and 25-15 to earn their sixth loss of the season.

Beth Carter had 14 kills in the game against Beddingfield, and Anna Sullivan had 16 assists.

The Lady Falcons traveled to Hunt on Tuesday night.
