Tonight (Thursday, September 13, 2007)

Representatives from local Boy Scout units will visit Fremont STARS tonight (Thursday, September 13) at 7 p.m., to give boys an opportunity to sign up for Scouting. The character-building Scouting programs offer a variety of activities like camps, outdoor exploration, fun competitions, and more. These programs help boys develop traits like confidence, a sense of belonging, moral and ethical decision making skills, leadership, and citizenship.
The Scout representatives will also visit Northwest Elementary on September 25 at 7 p.m.

Friday, September 14

Last day for donations to WOOFF yard sale, for next weekend.

The Women's Auxiliary of Fremont Free Will Baptist Church will be having a barbecue chicken lunch on Friday, September 14 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Plates of chicken, potatoes, string beans, and cake will be sold for $6 each. For tickets, call Loydeane Proctor at 242-5694.

Boys & Girls Club will hold their Day for Kids celebration on Friday at 4 p.m. at the location on North Sycamore Street. Events will include relay races, pool games, a cupcake walk, ball in the bucket, ping pong, and 3 on 3 basketball. Children and adults are invited to attend.

Saturday, September 15

St. James Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ of Fremont's scholarship committee will hold their fourth annual pancake breakfast this Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon in the church fellowship hall. Donation is $5 per plate, to be eaten in or taken out.

Antioch Original Free Will Baptist Church of Pikeville will hold a barbecue pork supper on Saturday, September 15 from 3-6 p.m. Cost is $6 per plate, available for eating in or taking out. A bake sale and silent auction of cakes and donated items will also be held. Gospel bluegrass music will be provided by Brush Arbor, starting at 6 p.m.

Sunday, September 16

Turkey shoot, skeet shoot, BB target shoot, turkey calling, fishing, hotdogs, conservation education, falconry display and gun safety instruction are a few of the fun, exciting and educational events that will take place at the JAKES Conservation  Field Day to be held Sunday, September 16. Hosted by the Wayne County Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), the event is free to youngsters through 17 years of age and their attending parents or guardians. The event will be held from 2-5 p.m. and will be located at the home of Ted Hood at 176 Weaver Road, Goldsboro. Weaver Road is located six miles from the Wayne County Fairgrounds on U.S. 13 South. Directional signs will be located near the event. A fun-filled-day of outdoor activities is planned and includes many "hands-on" experiences. Those attending will learn about conservation and gun safety while having fun. The first 50 "JAKES" will receive a box turkey call. All youngsters 17 and under will receive a free membership to the NWTF JAKES program. Hotdogs and drinks will be provided at the conclusion of the event as well. The Youngsters will have the opportunity to win a turkey at a real turkey target shoot and try to hit a flying clay target in the skeet shoot station. North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission Officer Christopher Holmes and NCWRC Gun Safety Educator Travis Casper will man the commission's BB Range where kids will learn how to handle the air rifle and test their marksmanship skills on paper targets. Friday, September 21

Welfare of our Furry Friends (WOOFF) will hold a yard sale on September 21-22 from 7 a.m.-4 p.m., at 223 Westwood Drive, Goldsboro. Donations will be accepted until Friday. For more information, call 736-3496.

Tuesday, September 25

Chief Rawlings and the Fremont Police Department will hold a gun sale on Tuesday, September 25 from 9 a.m. to noon. The weapons will be on display in the City Council room, for gun dealers only. Only licensed gun dealers will be allowed to bid on lots, with each lot consisting of at least four weapons. Closed bids should be in by noon, with no exceptions. The City of Fremont reserves the right to reject any bids. Bids will be rewarded shortly after noon. The City of Fremont will accept company checks, cash, money orders, and cashier's checks.

Sunday, September 30

Pleasant Hill Original Free Will Baptist Church, 1080 Gurley Dairy Road, Pikeville, will hold its Fall Revival September 30 through October 3.  Reverend Buddy Rogerson will deliver the message.  Everyone is invited.
