Pigskin Pickin's first week ends in tie

6 September 2007 — The News Leader Pigskin Pickin’ Contest got off to a rough start, but our pickers were in mid-season form last week.

The contest listed the CBA at Goldsboro game, which won’t be played until this Friday, so we counted all of the picks as right on that one.

Three of our pickers got all of the remaining five games right, to send the contest to the tie-breaker. Mike King of Pikeville picked a final 28-14 UConn win over Duke, closer to the final 45-14 than Mario Re and Eleanor Gooding, the other two perfect Pigskin Pickers.

Runner-up honors go to: David B. Hill, Chris Keen, Todd Rose, Billy Suggs, and Eddie Yelverton.

Honorable mentions go to: Ronnie A. Barnes, Devone Jones, Kay Rose, Denny Tart, and James Vinson.

For his winning entry, Mr. King scores two tickets to the UNC at ECU game Saturday.

This week we will offer two tickets to the Southern Miss at ECU game.
