ODIE H. CHASE

Odie Head Chase, 95, died Thursday afternoon, August 30.

A native of Greene County, she was born March 7, 1912, the daughter of the late Lem and Ada Caudell Head. A homemaker, Mrs. Chase moved to Goldsboro following the death of her late husband, D.B. Chase in 1967. She was a member of Oak Forest Church of Christ.

Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service in Snow Hill with the Rev. Robert Goff and the Rev. Lennie Reagan officiating. Committal services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 2, at the Snow Hill Cemetery.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Chase was also preceded in death by a son, Earl Chase.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Chase Butts and husband, Jimmy, of Goldsboro; granddaughter, Tracy Martin and husband, Jim, of Keller, Texas; grandsons, David Butts and wife, Brandie, of Goldsboro and Tony Chase of Baton Rouge, La.; great-grandchildren, Chase Martin, Braylee Butts, Britteny Butts and Dacen Butts; sisters, Onnie Lee Bass of Snow Hill and Belle Rhodes of Goldsboro; and a brother, Jimmy Head of Eureka.

MAZIE E. EDMUNDSON

Mazie Evans Edmundson, 85, of Fremont, died Saturday afternoon, August 31, at her residence.

She was a native of the Faro Community of Wayne County and was born on May 5, 1922 to the late Annie Minshew Evans and Marvin Evans. She was a graduate of 1940 class of Eureka High School. Mrs. Edmundson had been a very active member of Antioch Free Will Baptist Church, where she was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary. She also served as the secretary of the Sunday school and worked with the youths of the church for a number of years.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 1 at 5 p.m. in Antioch Free Will Baptist Church, Pikeville. Interment was Tuesday, September 4 at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, Dudley. The Rev. Dale Belvin officiated.

Surviving is her husband of 66 years, Walter Edmundson; a son and daughter-in-law, Maurice "Mo" H. and Pat Edmundson of Chapin, S.C.; and a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Edmundson and Gerald Ange of Wilmington; grandchildren, Lisa Spain of Fuquay-Varina, Kyle Edmundson of Cary and Todd Ange and Kevin Ange, both of Wilmington; and great-grandchildren, Anna Edmundson, Lucy Edmundson, Karson Ange and Wade Ange.

JAMES F. FULKERSON

James "Jim" F. Fulkerson, 96, of Fremont, died Monday, September 3.

He retired from the Navy with the rank of Chief Petty Officer, and also retired from civil service at Seymour Johnson A.F.B.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5 at Elmwood Cemetery, New Section.

Surviving are his wife, Daphne Barnes Fulkerson; a daughter, Brenda F. Bowie and husband, Jim, of Fremont; a son, Michael Fulkerson and wife, Wilma, of Scotland Neck; three grandchildren, Jenna Bowie Mentlewski, Mark Bowie and Troy Fulkerson; three great-grandchildren, Lauren, Kathy and James Fulkerson; and two brothers, Walton Fulkerson of Almo, Ky., and Ernest Fulkerson of Central City, Ky.

Memorials are suggested to Fremont Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 960, Fremont, N.C. 27830.

 

SHEPARD HARDY

Shepard Hardy, 70, died Tuesday, August 28.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 2 at McIntyre Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ernie Haskins officiating.

Burial followed in Turner Swamp Cemetery in Eureka.

 

ELIZABETH LEFTWRIDGE

Elizabeth Leftwridge, 80, of Goldsboro, died Saturday, September 1 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5 at Darden Chapel O.F.W. Baptist Church. Burial was in Wayne Memorial Park, North, with Bishop James Leftwridge officiating.

She is survived by her husband, Hardy Leftwridge of the home; three daughters, Herlene and Janice Mitchell, both of Goldsboro, and Stella L. Mitchell of Dudley; six sisters, Helen Murchison, Mary E. and Louise Leftwridge, all of Goldsboro, Pauline Hocutt of Selma, Pearlie Donald of Kenly, and Eva Mae Broadie of Durham; three brothers, Isiah, John Earl and Charles Murchison, all of Goldsboro; and an aunt, Ruth Murchinson of Fremont.

Arrangements by McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries of Goldsboro.

 

LINWOOD T. RADFORD

Linwood Thomas Radford, 64, of Pikeville, died Wednesday morning, September 5, at home.

Linwood was born in Wayne County to the late Leslie Radford and Pearl Henn Radford. He was a retired contract sales representative for Goldsboro Builders Supply and had served in the Army Reserve.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 6, at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Bobby Jones officiating. Interment was held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Radford Family Cemetery in Nahunta.

Linwood is survived by his devoted wife, Anna Gwaltney Radford; his daughter, Jennifer Radford Hart of Goldsboro; his stepchildren, Laurie Adams Strickland and husband, William, of Wilson, Wendy Adams Pinkham and husband, Jim, of Charlotte, Freddie Adams Jr. and wife, Norlette, of Goldsboro and Frankie Adams Dawson and husband, Brian, of Goldsboro; his step-grandchildren, William Strickland, Harriet Strickland, Freddie Adams III, Hannah Dawson and Lawson Adams; his sisters, Marie Radford Taylor and husband, Billy, of Kinston and Evelyn Radford Lamm and husband, Gene, of Florida; and his brother, Ed Radford and wife, Gail, of Goldsboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence Radford, Raymond Radford and Mack Radford; and his sister, Thelma Radford McKeel.

 

 

BERTHA S. STROUD

Bertha Smith Mooring Stroud, 89, of Pikeville, died Monday, September 3 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Bertha was born in Wayne County on February 17, 1918 to the late Joshua Smith and Lou Lancaster Smith. She was married to the late Tom Mooring and Milton Ivey Stroud. Bertha was retired from Textilease.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 5 at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Goff and the Rev. David Hollowell officiating. Interment was scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Hill Family Cemetery.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Stroud and her daughter, Linda Stroud Stocks. Bertha was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

Bertha is survived by her son, Ivey Stroud and wife, Becky, of Raleigh; and five grandsons, Chris Mooring and wife, Angie, Kelvin Mooring and wife, Karen, John Thornton and wife, Tammy, Jason Thornton and wife, and Michael Mooring. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, as well as many special nieces and nephews, including Derald Smith and Ann S. Smith, both of Goldsboro.

 

 

WILLIAM H. SAULS

William Henry Sauls, 78, of Fremont, died Thursday afternoon, August 30, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 1, at St. James Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, Fremont, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Tony Sutton officiating. Interment was in the Fremont Cemetery.

He was the son of the late Cleveland and Lucy Sauls.

He is survived by four daughters, Mary Sauls of Baltimore, Md., Annie S. Artis of Pikeville, Evelyn Ellis of Raleigh and Teresa Watson of Fort Walton, Fla.; one son, William Ray Sauls of Pikeville; one sister, Nancy Revis of Fremont; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Essie Mae Sauls-Mulford of Delaware.
