Fike ends Lady Falcons' winning streak

6 September 2007 — The Aycock varsity women’s tennis team earned a split overall record this past week, with losses to Wilson Fike and Rocky Mount.

Fike swept the Lady Falcons on Wednesday, with none of Aycock’s players winning a match. This ended a 24-game winning streak for number two seed Courtney Barnes.

The Aycock ladies did win a few matches against Rocky Mount the next afternoon, but it wasn’t enough to win the game. Kristin Prosser and Jessica Davis won singles sets, but the Rocky Mount ladies walked home the winners, 6-2.

Coach Luke Vail said that both Prosser and Davis played excellent games on Thursday.

“Rocky Mount has an outstanding team,” he said. “They played much better than we did on the big points.”

The junior varsity had a split record this week, earning a win against Greenfield Academny and a loss against Greene Central.

Hollie Baker, Alicia Sodoma, Nicole Kessler, and Harlie Howard all earned singles wins against Greenfield, and the Aycock ladies swept doubles with three wins. Aycock won, with a game total of 7-2

A tight game against Greene Central gave the ladies their second loss of the season, with a final score of 5-4.

Baker, Kessler, Howard, and Amanda Farmer won singles matches, but none of the Aycock pairs won their doubles sets, giving Greene Central the win

The varsity team played at Beddingfield on Tuesday, while the JV took on North Lenoir on Wednesday.
