Varsity Falcons send Rams into triple overtime6 September 2007 — The Charles B. Aycock Falcons played an exciting game of football Friday night, losing to Greene Central 27-21 in triple overtime, and though the Falcons went home without the win, Head Coach Randy Pinkowski said that no one left that game a loser.
The Rams gained an early lead Friday night with a 43-yard rush for the touchdown in the first quarter, followed by an unsuccessful kick. The Falcons seized a momentary lead in the second quarter, when Steven Strouse launced a three-yard pass to Michael King for the touchdown. A successful kick from Alex Roosin gave Aycock a one-point lead. But the Rams weren’t ready to go in, scoring a second touchdown before the half was up, and tacking on two more points with a two-point conversion. Greene Central returned from the locker room intent on increasing their lead, and scored the first touchdown of the second half with a three-yard pass, followed by a successful kick.
But Aycock was still in the game, and followed with another touchdown in the third quarter. King received a four-yard pass from Strouse, and Roosin offered another successful kick. In the fourth quarter, the Falcon defense kept the Rams from scoring, while the offense evened the score. Tyheim Pitt earned the touchdown with a three-yard run, and another successful kick from Roosin tied up the score, 21-21. As the team endured two rounds of overtime, neither allowed the other to cross into the end zone. The Rams ended the game in the third overtime with a 10-yard run for the touchdown.
The Falcons gained a total of 259 yards of offense Friday night. Pitt led in rushing, going 127 yards in 30 attempts. Blake Cooper added 17 yards in five tries, for a total of 144 yards on the ground. In the air, Strouse gained 115 yards on seven completed passes. Jacob Pendleton received three of those passes, for a total of 69 yards. King received two for a total of 37 yards, and Pitt received one for nine yards. Defensively, the Falcons were led by Jarrett Covar, who had seven tackles and three assists. Kendre Reid and Anthony Holder each had five tackles and one assist. Holder, Devon Newsome and Blake Cooper each had a fumble recovery. This week the 0-2 Falcons take on another challenging team, traveling to Goldsboro to take on the Cougars. Goldsboro is 1-2 for the season.
